Apple Pie by Grandma Ople

Reviewed: Mar. 2, 2012
Turned out perfectly. My sauce was super thick though, so I kind of just smothered it over the apples before putting on the lattice. I don't have a problem with this, just something I had to deal with. I used 8 smallish Gala apples instead and reduced the white sugar by 2 tbls. Awesome!

Diane's German Chocolate Cake

Reviewed: Jul. 13, 2011
This cake it totally decent. Not extremely gourmet tasting, but if your on a budget it is really satisfying. I did not like that there was not enough icing to frost the sides of the cake, there was only enough for the layers. So I found a chocolate glaze recipe and drizzled that over the whole cake in a cross-hatch pattern. It still looked pretty, so I'm not too disappointed. The icing also took really long to thicken; I'm not even sure if it was the right consistency when I took it off the stove. Served it next to a big scoop of chocolate ganache gelato, fantastico!

One Minute Chocolate Icing

Reviewed: Jul. 12, 2011
This is not icing, it is chocolate syrup. I'll give it four stars though because I ended up just drizzling it over my cake and it looks pretty decent.

Chicken Meatballs and Spaghetti

Reviewed: Jan. 21, 2011
The grocery store that I went to didn't have any ground chicken, so I got ground turkey. Turned out great! I didn't throw all the meatballs into my sauce, only what I wanted to eat and froze the rest for future use. I also baked my meatballs because it was less mess and less time consuming.

Lite Carrot Cake

Reviewed: Jan. 21, 2011
I used apple sauce instead of oil, decreased white sugar, used yogurt instead of buttermilk, all purpose flour, only egg whites, added nutmeg and added a half cup of carrots. While I definitely feel this cake is not as good as a gourmet carrot cake, I still think it is a good little snack, especially with cream cheese icing. It turned out very dense and didn't rise much at all. Overall, I have come to the conclusion that for a low fat and low sugar cake, this was just fine.

Blueberry Kuchen

Reviewed: Jan. 19, 2011
I didn't have lemon peel so used 2 tsp lemon juice instead and it was not strong at all, just a hint of lemon. I also used low-fat vanilla yogurt in place of the milk because i wanted my kuchen to come out really dense and moist. For this same reason i doubled the blueberries to 4 cups. Since i added all the extra blueberries, which were frozen, i ended up extending my cook time by 10 minutes. I like to eat it straight from the fridge, so i try not to eat it until it is thoroughly chilled first.

French Onion Soup IV

Reviewed: Jan. 19, 2011
I have always felt intimidated by french onion soup recipes. Not anymore! This was great and super easy to make. I didnt put the bread on the bottom of the bowls because the bread floats to the top anyway.

Eggplant Parmesan I

Reviewed: Jan. 11, 2011
my large eggplant only gave me four stacks, 3 layers high. This was fine since it was just my boyfriend eating. I spooned the cheese mixture onto each layer and only used as much as I felt was needed. I also only needed about half the pasta sauce listed. I didn't have fresh basil and used dried instead, which turned out wonderfully. I love this recipe because it is easy and can be adjusted to suit personal tastes.

Banana Bread IV

Love it! I did 1 cup white sugar and 1 cup brown sugar, as well as added a teaspoon of cinnamon. In one of my loaves I added walnuts and I think it really added to the excellence of this sweet bread. Definitely will make many more times!

Sophie's Zucchini Bread

Reviewed: Jul. 25, 2010
I used half wheat flour and half all purpose, replaced the oil with apple sauce, and replaced half the sugar with brown sugar. This is an excellent sweet bread! very dense and the walnuts really take it up a notch as well. When I first tried the bread after it cooled, I was not impressed and almost threw it away. Luckily, I did not and when I gave the bread a second chance the next day, it tasted amazing. I recommend eating a slice with a little butter spread on top.

Good Old Fashioned Pancakes

I followed this recipe exactly. The batter was way too thick and the pancakes themselves ended up being flavorless. I am not sure how this got such good reviews because they were not good.

Baked Chicken Wings

Reviewed: Oct. 27, 2009
My mom makes these wings all the time and the other day I got a huge craving for them and couldn't get a hold of her for the recipe. Thankfully it was right here! I also used this for drum sticks and they came out great and in the same amount of time. I also put some wing sauce on some after I took them out and that made them even better.

Quick Biscuits

Reviewed: Jul. 25, 2009
I have never made biscuits before and to be honest I was sure I would fail at making these. I was so happy when it did work and they tasted great! I don't eat KFC anymore because I think it is digusting, but I always loved their biscuits and these reminded me of KFC's. I served them with 2 kinds of jams and butter. They were gone in minutes. Be careful not to over work the dough, which I am pretty sure I did because I think they could have turned out prettier.

Grandmother's Buttermilk Cornbread

Reviewed: May 23, 2009
This was a really simple recipe and i thought it was ok but my boyfriend loved them. i dont like super sweet corn bread so i only put in half a cup of sugar, which i think changed the taste because they ended up tasting like butter and flour. i also dont like how dense they are but my boyfriend did. i thought they were really good dipped in some goulash i made though
