About this Cook
I'm not very interesting, but I will say that I enjoy cooking and baking when I have the time; at the moment, I am mostly trying to improve my techniques and discover new, healthier versions of old favorites.
My favorite things to cook
I especially enjoy baking, so that means cookies, cakes, breads, etc. I also enjoy slow-cooking and making main dishes, but usually I need to look at others' recipes for those!
My favorite family cooking traditions
My grandmother is Danish and grew up in america during the depression. As a result, many of my favorites and some of our traditions are based around these foods. For good measure, my husband is Dutch, so I am learning to incorporate more from that region/culture as well.
My cooking triumphs
Any moist and flavourful cake/bread I have made. My favorites lean toward bran muffins and oatmeal cookies; other family members prefer chocolate cake and chocolate chip cookies.
My cooking tragedies
I have yet to successfully make fudge with marshmallow creme. Oy.

Resurrection Rolls
I wanted to try this recipe as soon as I saw it... The taste to these is great, but they are not as easy to make as you'd think- Every single one of my "tombs" spilled out and stuck everywhere. So a warning to those just trying this- you may think that you sealed them tightly, but that doesn't make it safe! If I try this again, I will do as another reviewer suggested and wrap each marshmallow with two rolls.

Christmas Stollen
This recipe barely rose at all, but my husband (who is dutch and grew up eating stollen) decided to throw it into the oven away. It rose a bit more, but it still came out like a brick. The taste is not bad, but it is also not the same as the stollen he grew up with. I doubt we will try this recipe again.

London Broil II
I cut meat for a living and just thought I should mention here that flank steak is not the same thing as a london broil. There is a top round london broil and a shoulder cut london broil, both of which are very thick cuts (almost like roasts).... A flank steak is entirely different and very thin cut (as the muscle is naturally thin and small).
