I love to cook - especially for large holiday gatherings. My main focus now is to find the BEST recipe for various comfort foods - so when people bite into it, they say "wow".
My favorite things to cook
Thanksgiving dinner - Turkey and all the trimmings, millions of side dishes and desserts. Also cakes, my cake decorating tools and accessories fill an entire storage closet.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Big holiday dinners. Love getting my nieces to help. They are 15 and 22 years old now and can actually cook - real food, from scratch.
My cooking triumphs
When I was 10 years old, I won second place at our county fair, in the adult division, for bread baking. It was my first attempt at making bread (what was I thinking!!) and I used a 100-yr old recipe from an ancestor. I found out through my genealogy research that my great, great aunt had owned a bakery in Denmark. No wonder her recipe was so delicious.
My cooking tragedies
I once made muffins that were so hard and heavy, they dented the floor when my dad dropped one. I was 13, and I put in way too much sugar.
