Heavenly Health Dog Biscuits

Reviewed: Apr. 8, 2009
I have a lab with horrible food allergies. I decided to give this recipe a try. I cut out the yeast and sugar, as I was not sure how they would affect him. I also could not find the different kinds of flours so I used a gluten free flour as a substitute for both. It is too soon to tell if he will have an allergic reaction to these, but he as well as my parent's dogs loved these treats.

Linguine Pasta with Shrimp and Tomatoes

Reviewed: Mar. 13, 2009
Very good! I upped the garlic and cajun seasoning to make it taste more spicy than sweet. Next time I may add a few more tomatoes to make a little more sauce.

Coconut Macaroons II

Reviewed: Jan. 26, 2009
Wonderful! I wanted to make my parents some travel goodies and these turned out great. I took the advice of others and reduced the heat to 325 and cooked for about 20-25 minutes. I also refrigerated the mixture for about an hour before forming them with an ice cream scoop.

Birthday Bones

Reviewed: Sep. 14, 2008
BEWARE! If your dog has any sensitivities to food this is not the recipe for them. My lab had a horrible allergic reaction to this recipe. Turns out, as some raters have already suggested - milk is not good for dogs. If you use this recipe don't use the milk!! I was also told to remove the baking powder as an extra precaution.

Taco Pizza

Reviewed: May 2, 2009
Very good pizza! I must admit that I did use another pizza crust - Jay's Signature Pizza Crust, a recipe from this site, because I only wanted to make one pizza since it is only my husband and I. I cut the cayenne pepper in half in fear that it may be too much spice for us. Once I rolled out the dough, I put some olive oil and garlic powder on it and pre-baked it for 5 minutes. I topped the pizza with lettuce, tomato and crushed Doritos after it was done baking.

Easter Egg Nests

Reviewed: Apr. 10, 2009
The recipe is o.k. I would not rate them up there with the store brand when made according to the recipe. I could not help but to think that there was something missing so when I made them again I added a 1/2 tsp of vanilla and they were wonderful. Very cute easter treat if you add jelly beans and/or peeps if you make bigger nests.

Spicy Turkey Chili

Reviewed: Mar. 30, 2008
When I first started cooking I made this recipe and really liked it; however, I made this again a few years later and I did not care for it at all. Not sure if I did something different this time around or my cooking skills have improved thus changing my expectations, but I won't be keeping this in my recipe book.

Sausage Pasta

Really good. DH didn't care for it due to all the spinach. I will have to use half the spinach if I make it again.

Awesome Slow Cooker Pot Roast

Reviewed: Aug. 1, 2012
Really good. I used a 3.5 lb roast, 1 can of soup, 1 package of soup mix, and 1 1/2 cups of beef broth. I also took another reviewer's advice and sprinkled some salt and pepper on the roast before adding it to the pot.

Creamy Hot Cocoa

Reviewed: Dec. 2, 2009
This is the first time I was making homemade hot chocolate. I am really picky about my hot chocolate and I just did not like this recipe and neither did my husband. He said he prefers swiss miss over this recipe.

Apple Pie by Grandma Ople

Reviewed: Nov. 28, 2009
This was the very first pie I have ever made from scratch and it was great! I followed some reviewers and made a few changes to the recipe an found some of their tips very helpful. 1. I used the no fail pie crust recipe from this site. 2. I brushed the bottom crust with egg whites before filling. 3. I prepared the lattice top before I started making the pie. 4. I used 6 granny smith apples instead of 8. 5. I added 1 Tbs. of corn starch, 1 Tsp cinnamon, dash of nutmeg and 1 Tbs. of vanilla to the syrup mixture. I took out a Tbs. of water to make up for the added Tbs of liquid from the vanilla. 6. I mixed 2/3 of the syrup with the apples before putting in pan and drizzled the remaining 1/3 over the top. 7. I baked the pie at 350 for the entire time and let it cook for an additional 20 min. because the apples were not quite done yet. It turned out great! I did not have any problems others had mentioned: no soggy crust, no overflow issues, the apples were tender... Definite keeper!

Turkey Fried Rice

Reviewed: Mar. 8, 2009
I did alter this recipe to fit my time constraints and the ingredients I had on hand. I did not refrigerate anything overnight, I did not use lettuce and I used Basmati rice (white rice) instead of brown rice. It turned out wonderful.

Herb Rubbed Sirloin Tip Roast

I am not a red meat fan but even I have to admit that this was really good. Make sure to take note of the kosher salt - if using table salt cut in half!

Calzone

Reviewed: Dec. 13, 2009
It is a little difficult to eat due to the toughness of the bread but it was good. I am glad I sprinkled the bread with garlic powder before baking because the bread wouldn't have had any flavor otherwise. It was much easier to eat reheated the next day when the bread was a little softer.

Burrito Pie

Good recipe as long as you follow a few of the changes others have suggested. I used 3 tortillas thick per layer. I let the meat simmer for 30 min and I did not mix the meat mixture and the beans.

They are ok. I was looking for a recipe similar to my mother in law's, but these just don't compare. Hers are much fluffier and have more flavor.

Very good cookie for icing. I was very happy that these cookies were not too sweet themselves. I cut the flour to 3 cups and used butter instead of margarine.
