Guacamole

Reviewed: Sep. 28, 2010
This will be my go-to guacamole recipe -- it is excellent just the way it's written. For a little more kick, though, I might use freshly minced jalapeno instead of the cayenne.

Spicy Glazed Pecans

Reviewed: Aug. 15, 2010
Just the glazed pecan recipe I was looking for! Easy and tasty, but I used 2 TB water and 1/8 c sugar to avoid the cloudy, sugar clumping. Just a sweet sheen on the pecans. Thanks!

Extreme Chocolate Cake

Reviewed: Jun. 13, 2010
I made this recipe using high quality cocoa powder and fresh brewed coffee in place of the boiling water and it tastes great. The moistness is wonderful, but it is a wee bit dense. I'd definitely make it again though.

Curried Quinoa Salad with Mango

Reviewed: May 17, 2010
Deeeeelish!!!! I used veggie broth instead of chicken broth to keep it totally vegetarian and I used fresh garlic instead of powder (didn't have any powder). The flavor is amazing, the quinoa is sufficiently chewy, but not too much. I will definitely make this again and again while mangoes are fresh in stock! I can also see how this recipe can be switched up to make a variety of sides and main courses. Well done!

Waldorf Turkey Sandwiches

Reviewed: Apr. 19, 2010
It's a good base recipe, but it's bland as is. Be sure to use salt and pepper to season. I also added a touch of paprika and finely diced red onion for additional flavor. Also, if you want a meat substitute, try a can of chick peas in place of the turkey.

Brown Rice, Broccoli, Cheese and Walnut Surprise

Reviewed: Apr. 18, 2010
I was a little skeptical, but routinely have these ingredients on hand so I gave it a try -- DELICIOUS! It's easy, it's quick and you can jazz it up with whatever you like. I'd made it just like this and with chicken.

Quinoa and Black Beans

Reviewed: Apr. 18, 2010
Love this, but it needs more spices or it could wind up being a little bland. The second time I made it, I added andouille sausage to make it spicier and heartier.

Brown Sugar Instant Oatmeal Muffins

Reviewed: Mar. 27, 2010
Meh. That's all I can say about these bland, dense muffins. I used regular quick-cook oatmeal and about 2 tsp. of real maple syrup instead of the packets of instant oatmeal. Maybe that made the difference. I won't make these again.

White Chocolate Chip Oatmeal Cookies

Reviewed: Feb. 11, 2010
This recipe is wonderful as is, no changes. BUT if you want a 5-star cookie, then you need to spice these bad boys. I used ground coriander and ginger, but cinnamon or allspice will work too. Like some other users, I cut the butter to 1/2 c and added 1/2 c unsweetened applesauce. I also cut the white sugar to 1/2 c. I cooked for just 8 - 9 minutes because I like my cookies soft. The flavor is wonderful. Spice them, and you have a 5-star cookie!

Chewy Peanut Butter Chocolate Chip Cookies

Reviewed: Feb. 6, 2010
These were wonderful! Exactly the kind of PB cookie recipe I was looking for. I took the advice of other reviewers and added 1 cup of PB and cut the flour to 2 cups. To ensure they stayed chewy and soft longer, I cut the white sugar to 1/4 cup and added an additional 1/4 cup of brown sugar (dark, just my flavor preference) and baked for no more than 9 minutes. I also didn't make the whopping 1/4 cup size cookies, just used a regular cookie scoop. I would make this recipe over and over again.

Strawberries in Spiced Syrup

Reviewed: Aug. 30, 2009
Super simple, quick and very tasty! I poured it over some waffles and couldn't ge enough of it! I would use it on pancakes, biscuits or pound cake too. I want to try this same recipe with blueberries, apples and other fruit I always seem to have on hand.

Butter Bean Burgers

Reviewed: Jul. 13, 2009
Yowsa! This was tasty! It even smelled good when I was making the patties. It has TONS of flavor and I love the smooth, rich texture in the middle. I made these using Italian bread crumbs instead of the Saltines as some had suggested. I can already think of different ways to serve the mash besides as a burger and I can't wait to try them. I will make these again and again! Thanks Silverwolf!

Perfect Sesame Chicken

Reviewed: Jul. 13, 2009
I was looking for a recipe to use my leftover fried chicken from a restaurant in and this was EXCELLENT. I made the sauce as written (except I cut the white sugar to 3/4 cup). This is the best sesame chicken I've ever made and this is the recipe I will stick with from now on. The chili paste adds an authentic Asian flavor so don't skip it. Contrary to what some other commenters wrote, this sauce IS NOT hot spicy. The next time I make it, I will add either more chili paste or some red pepper flakes for more kick.

Sour Cream Coffee Cake III

Reviewed: Jul. 6, 2009
I made this twice just as written, except the second time I didn't have any sour cream, so I used buttermilk and a little extra butter. Both times it was super moist with just the right amount of tang to balance the sweetness. I want to try it again using blueberries or other fruit, but the recipe really is fine as is!

Garbanzo Bean Chocolate Cake (Gluten Free!)

Reviewed: Jan. 11, 2009
Wow! I had no idea how this would turn out, but I followed the recipe to the letter and got a wonderfully rich, moist cake! Yes, it's more brownie-like in texture, but that's because it's flourless. All flourless chocolate cakes are rich and dense. The bean taste is slight and almost imperceptible. I will DEFINITELY make this again.

I really like these! Instead of maple syrup, spoon fried apples on top.
