Hawaiian Chicken I

Reviewed: Jun. 9, 2013
I have been making this recipe for years, and it is delicious. I do a few things differently. I don't use the butter at all, and I use only a few drops of Worcestershire sauce. I'm not a huge fan of Worcestershire, but using a few drops will cut down on the sweetness of the sauce, without changing the flavor of it. I thicken the sauce with a mixture of cornstarch and water. I add some Monterey Jack cheese on top of the pineapple and let stay on the grill until melted. I serve this sandwich-style on 9-Grain bread that has been buttered and fried on one side.

Sophie's Zucchini Bread

Reviewed: May 19, 2008
This bread is wonderful, very moist and flavorful. I made a few changes to the recipe, however. I only had enough zucchini for 2 cups, shredded. So I shredded a Golden Delicious apple, and that made up for the third cup. (I'm sure it would be good with shredded carrots if you wanted to use that, rather than the apple.) I used 1 1/2 cups granulated sugar, and 1/2 cup brown sugar. I also sprinkled in some nutmeg and ground cloves. Very, very good!

Easy Lemon Cake

Reviewed: Mar. 29, 2005
I made this for Easter, and it is wonderful! I wondered if a yellow cake mix and lemon gelatin mix would be an odd combination, but with the glaze, it was very lemony. It is even more moist the next few days. My family loved it!

Best Big, Fat, Chewy Chocolate Chip Cookie

Reviewed: Aug. 1, 2004
Great cookies! My son absolutely adores them. I added a few plain M&M's to the top of the cookies before baking. I couldn't bake them all at once, so I rolled the cookie dough into the shape of a log, and wrapped in waxed paper. These can either be refrigerated or frozen at this point, and then sliced about almost a 1/2 inch thick, then baked.

Taco Seasoning I

Reviewed: Jun. 17, 2004
Fantastic! I doubled the recipe for 2 lbs of hamburger to use for Taco Salad. It is quite spicy, even using scant measurements. I added 3/4 cup water to the (2 lbs) meat. My 13 yo son just LOVES this meat! Much better than any packaged kind.

The Whole Jar of Peanut Butter Cookies

Reviewed: May 18, 2003
Very good cookies. I flattened the balls of dough slightly, with a meat mallet dipped in sugar (the pointy side), to get a criss-cross effect. I also added some milk chocolate chips to some of the dough. My husband requests these cookies often.

Charley's Slow Cooker Mexican Style Meat

Reviewed: Dec. 19, 2002
This is so very good! I was scared off at first by the amount of hot sauce called for in the recipe. But, the long cooking time must neutralize the hotness of it. I do though, cut down on the amount of the hot sauce to about 1/2 cup. Because the brand I use tastes vinegary, I add a little extra water. I add some dried oregano leaves too. I use this for fajitas, and serve with sauteed onions and green peppers.

Emily's Famous Sloppy Joes

Reviewed: Dec. 19, 2002
This is the best recipe for Sloppy Joes I have ever found. I add some ketchup (about 1/3 cup or so) to cut down on the barbecue taste. I make this all the time now. Very good!
