Chess Cake

Reviewed: Aug. 18, 2013
The first time I made this with carrot cake mix...Awesome! The next time I made it with chocolate cake mix and I invited the same people to taste test. Guests ranged in ages from 11 years to 69 years old. Hands down the carrot cake won! By the way, they are both better the next day. The only thing I do different is I add vanilla to the cream cheese mixture and add 10 more minutes to the baking time. I shake the pan to make sure the middle of the cake does not jiggle before removing from the oven. Thanks for the great recipe. I going to make it again today with a different flavor cake mix. Can't wait!!!!

I sautéed the peas in a skillet with the olive oil then added heaping Tbls. chopped garlic and a Tbls. red pepper flakes, and the rest of the ingredients. I did use 1/4 Cup of brown sugar instead of 1/4 teaspoon. Everyone loved them as finger food. Great recipe, thanks.

Extreme Banana Nut Bread 'EBNB'

Reviewed: Nov. 20, 2010
I made this for our Holiday Bake Sale at our Church. Of course we had to taste test it first. Very good! I sprinkled the bottom and sides of the pans with brown sugar mixed with cinnamon instead of the flour. I used 1 cup each of white and brown sugar. Added 2 teaspoons of vanilla. Did not use the walnuts (Personal taste) Awesome! the crust is to die for. Thanks for the recipe!

Chocolate Hazelnut Mocha Cappuccino Pie

Reviewed: Nov. 20, 2010
Changed to white chocolate pudding. Changed the milk to 1 1/4 c. Changed the hazelnuts to Heath bar chips. Got rave reviews from my adult grandchildren. Too sweet for me and my friend but her mother loved it also. It will be one of the pies in my rotation for our bake sales at church though. Thanks for the recipe LV.

Polynesian Coleslaw

Reviewed: Nov. 20, 2010
Wow! This is so good....I made this but used a bag of coleslaw mix, about 4 cups. Cut the dressing ingredients in half. I didn't hve the bell peppers. I used a handful of match stick carrots, no cilantro or sesame seeds (personal taste). My friend came of to taste test it with me and we both loved it. I sent 2/3's of it home with her because my husband won't eat cabbage. She called later to tell me her mother loved it too. Now I don't have enough fo myself. No prob though, it is so easy to make. I'll just make another half batch and keep it all to myself! Thank you so much Dawn, for the new addition to my reipe box. This will be going with me to the next pot luck dinner. I'm sure there will be lots of guests wanting the recipe.

Fresh Strawberry Upside Down Cake

Reviewed: May 16, 2010
This was a wonderful cake. I had no problems with the recipe as written. I did not spray the cake pan and it didn't stick. My husband gives out very few 5 stars. This was a resounding 5 star from him and also from me. Thanks parealtor313 for the wonderful recipe. I can't wait to take it to our next pot luck dinner at church.

Pork Chops with Dill Pickle Marinade

Reviewed: Jul. 31, 2009
Karen, You did it! You are one of the few that have gotten a 5 star rating from my husband. He said these were the best I have ever made. I marinated thick cut butterfly porkchops for around 24 hours. Browned them on both sides in a skillet and then baked them at 350 until done. I did add lots of chopped garlic and dried red pepper flakes to the marinade. I, like others, thought these would have a dill pickle, vinegar taste but they didn't. Just a tiny hint that made you say HU-M-M-M what is that flavor? Good, Good, Good. Thanks!

Pasta e Olio

Reviewed: Jul. 10, 2009
MARBALET, M-M-M-WAH!!! This is great stuff! I'm on my second bowl since I made it this evening. I chopped four large garlic buds and sauted them in the olive oil. About half way through I added my red pepper flakes. When that was done I added parsley, basil and the butter. I stirred this until the butter was completly melted. I then poured this over the drained pasta, tossed it. Topped off each helping with salt and parm cheese! I just can't get enough. Thanks so much, this will be a staple at my home.

Chocolate Bar Pie I

Reviewed: Feb. 22, 2009
My hubby does not like chocolate so I was quite surprised when he ate 2 of the 12 graham crust tarts that this recipe made. I actually made them for our Priest. He only got 6 of them though. He said with a little whipped cream on top he was in heaven. A friend had 2 of them and raved. Thanks for a great recipe. I used 8 oz. cool whip instead of whipping cream and 12 individual graham cracker tarts. They were very light and were just the right serving size.

Feta Cheese Ball

Reviewed: Dec. 2, 2008
This was so easy to make and and everyone that tasted it loved it. On Thanksgiving, I set it out as a spread for bagel crisps and crackers. Every one loved it. I made the remainder into a cheese ball and rolled it in chopped walnuts. This was also well received at our church pot-luck. People asked for the recipe. I will be making this again. The only thing I changed was I used less dill weed and I used a 6 oz. container of tomatoe basil feta. Thanks Kelly for such a great recipe.

Balsamic Glazed Carrots

Reviewed: Aug. 16, 2008
After reading the reviews I made the following adjustment: Pre boiled the carrots and then followed the recipe exactly. These were great tasting! My husband was in full agreement that this is a five star recipe. This is a great way to change up the boredom of plain old carrots. Thanks, Harry for a great recipe.

Too Much Chocolate Cake

Reviewed: Aug. 16, 2008
This is really a prize winning cake! Only thing I changed was the pudding size. All I had on hand was 3.9 oz. and it was still great. All guests at the party loved it. I will be making it again and again. Will also try it with different flavors of cake, puddings, and chips. Thanks, Denise for a great cake recipe!

Chocolate Lovers' Favorite Cake

Reviewed: Aug. 16, 2008
Too much sour cream, too much butter and the almond extract took away from the chocolate taste of the cake. It was way to wet when it had cooked for 55 minutes and the outside was way too done. Will not make this again. The best chocolate cake is the Too Much Chocolate Cake recipe frome this site. If you really like chocolate try that one

Peanut Butter Bars I

Reviewed: Jul. 31, 2008
I made these in cupcake cups. Melted chocolate chips and peanut butter chips together and put some in the bottom of the paper cupcake cups, then the graham cracker mixture and topped off with more melted chocolate. They were so good and you didn't have to worry about the peanut butter mixture going soft. Adding peanut butter to the chocolate chips is the reason the chocolate was too soft. All those that tried these said they were great, none but the brave could eat a whole peanut butter cup! They are very rick! Thanks for the recipe!

Orange Cake

Reviewed: Jul. 31, 2008
Angie, If I were able to give 10 stars that still wouldn't be enough to tell you how good this cake is and can be. It has opened up a whole new world of cakes for me and my family! I first made it as you wrote it. Absoultly great! Then I made it totally orange with orange cake mix and vanilla pudding, orange juice and extract. Fabulous! Third time I made it with lemon cake mix, lemon pudding, lemon juice (realemon) and extract. My husband was in heaven! For all of them I doubled the glaze recipe, which is to die for! I read every review that was given and came up with the best way for me to glaze the cakes. Did what some did and drizzled more on each piece as it was served and have had nothing but rave reviews for all of the cakes. We all have our favorite, but all are worth 10 stars! By the way, I found this in June and can't count the times I have made this since. Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!!
