Felix K.'s 'Don't even try to say these aren't the best you've ever eaten, because they are' Chocolate Chip Cookies

Reviewed: Sep. 29, 2011
These are great cookies but I experimented with the baking temperatures to see which is best. I followed the directions exactly until baking them. I baked one batch at 300 degrees and those turned out very pale and soft. The next batch I baked at 350 degrees and those turned out crispy on the edges and chewy interiors. The 350 degree batch was my favorite. Fresh out of the oven, these tasted very sugary. Tasting them today, they are soft and not as sugary as tasting them last night. A good recipe but for me is better when baked at 350 degrees.

Mad Hatter Salad

Reviewed: Sep. 29, 2011
I was looking for a recipe to use sunflower seeds and found this one. I'm glad I did because it's wonderful. I used what I had on hand so I had to make some changes. I used white wine vinegar instead of apple cider vinegar. I also decreased the sugar to 1/4 cup and it was sweet enough for me. I toasted the nuts and ramen in a few tbsps of butter instead of one stick because one stick seemed excessive. This is a great recipe and one I will make again and again.

Chicken with Chipotle

Reviewed: Sep. 23, 2011
This is a fantastic recipe! I couldn't stop eating it. I love spicy foods anyway and this one had such a deep, rich flavor to go with the smoky heat. I used boneless, skinless chicken breasts instead of leg quarters. I sauteed the breasts in olive oil and then added the sauce and let them finish cooking in the sauce. It couldn't have been quicker to make. Thanks for a great recipe.

Valentino's Pizza Crust

Reviewed: Sep. 18, 2011
Great thick crust pizza! If you love thick, pan style pizza dough then this is the recipe for you. I doubled the recipe which made three large 12 inch pizzas which I baked at 450 degrees in a preheated oiled cast iron skillet. This dough has great flavor and reminds me of Pizza Hut's dough. I mixed this in my bread machine and did have to add about 1/2 cup extra flour. I will use this recipe often thanks!

Whole Wheat Oatmeal Bread

Reviewed: Sep. 13, 2011
This bread has fantastic flavor and texture. Since I didn't have dry milk powder I substituted regular milk for the water in this recipe. I made no other changes though. The bread turned out great and I will be making this one often. Thanks for a great recipe!

Graham Cracker Crust

Reviewed: Sep. 10, 2011
The store bought crusts always taste stale to me so I try to make my own. This recipe is the perfect amount of sugar and butter which results in a light crust that isn't too dense to cut through. I always bake mine because I like the flavor. Thanks for this easy recipe!

Crispy Fried Chicken

Reviewed: Sep. 4, 2011
Thank you, thank you, thank you for this recipe! I've made fried chicken before and it was tasty but never turned out fantastic. This time it was great. I had 5 very large bone-in, skin on chicken breasts. I marinated them in buttermilk and hot sauce for six hours. I mixed flour, salt, pepper, paprika, onion powder and garlic powder together to dredge the chicken. I fried this in my cast iron dutch oven because I was afraid of this boiling over. This method of covering the pot for 30 minutes gave me perfectly tender and juicy chicken. The crust was very crispy too. Thanks for my new go-to fried chicken recipe.

Butterfinger Chunkies

Reviewed: Aug. 31, 2011
These cookies are not my favorite. I've had this recipe in my recipe box for ages and have been wanting to try it. Unfortunately, they are achingly sweet, so sweet if you ate too many you would have a headache. They are thin and chewy cookies. The dough is very greasy and I put it in the fridge a while to firm up. I can see how everyone loves these but for me they're just too sweet.

Lemon Yogurt Muffins

Reviewed: Aug. 28, 2011
This muffin is yummy lemon goodness! The muffins turned out light and tender, kind of like mini pound cakes. I used the zest and juice from one lemon for the muffin mixture since I had plain yogurt. I did need to add a few tablespoons milk to thin out the batter since I used thick Greek yogurt. I didn't measure out the lemon juice for the topping and just went with the juice from another lemon. Mine were done at 15 minutes so make sure to check them then as other reviews have stated.

Blueberry Buttermilk Coffeecake

Reviewed: Aug. 21, 2011
Another fantastic recipe from this site! I had a lot of buttermilk to use up and picked this recipe since I had fresh blueberries in the freezer. I didn't make any changes to the cake mixture but did add a little cinnamon to the topping. The texture of the cake is so light and fluffy. All my blueberries sank to the bottom even though I tossed them in some of the flour mixture. It didn't matter though because it tastes great. I think this would be great with brown sugar and pecans in the topping too. Thanks for another great recipe!

Blueberry Lemon Loaf

Reviewed: Aug. 19, 2011
Yummy bread! I got confused by the directions for the topping and added the entire amount of lemon zest and juice in the bread. I didn't add the topping because I used all my lemon juice in the bread by accident. It didn't matter because it still tastes good. This bread didn't rise and it is a little dense. I think since it doesn't rise much it would be better baked in an 8 x 4 inch loaf pan to make it taller. Its a good recipe but may need a little something to make it fluffier for my liking.

French onion cob loaf

Reviewed: Aug. 7, 2011
I received this recipe as part of Recipe Exchange 2. I caramelized the onion in the bacon drippings and then added the reduced fat cream cheese and milk (I used milk to reduce the fat). Once melted, I added in the soup mix and a handful of grated sharp cheddar cheese. We dipped rosemary french bread into this and it was tasty. It would make a great dip for the holidays or for the Super Bowl. Thanks for a great recipe soundwrite01!

Crusty French Rolls

Reviewed: Jul. 24, 2011
These really are wonderful crusty, chewy rolls. I didn't change anything except the size. I made 8 sandwich size rolls to go with Pepperoncini Beef on this site. They were crusty coming right out of the oven and then became very chewy which I liked. I love the texture and taste of these. They make great sandwich rolls as well as dinner rolls. Thanks for this recipe Donna and Heather!

Yummy drink! I had leftover cream of coconut to use and this was the perfect way to use it up. It definitely tastes good and would be great with rum too. Nice refreshing summertime drink!

Italian Chicken Marinade

Reviewed: Jul. 3, 2011
This was pretty good but a little bland for me. I used Kraft Zesty Italian dressing and added black pepper to the recipe along with the other spices. I let it marinate for 4 hours. The chicken was juicy but didn't have as much flavor as I would have liked.

Best Big, Fat, Chewy Chocolate Chip Cookie

Reviewed: Jul. 2, 2011
Great tasting cookies! I can only review the recipe itself since I made these into bar cookies because I felt lazy and didn't feel like scooping out cookies. I kept all measurements the same except the chocolate chips because I didn't have enough. I baked in a 9 x 13 inch baking dish for 25 minutes and they were perfect. Just the chocolate chip cookie fix I needed without having to drag out multiple cookie sheets.

Authentic Louisiana Red Beans and Rice

Reviewed: Jun. 26, 2011
This is a great recipe but I changed the cooking method around. I first browned the sausage, removed it from the pan and then added in the chopped veggies to brown them. I only used a few tablespoons of olive oil. Then I added in chicken broth instead of water along with the beans. I didn't pre-soak the beans and never do. It only takes about 30 minutes extra cooking time and then I don't have to remember to soak beans ahead of time. I increased the cajun seasoning to 2 tsp. and think it could have used more. Overall, a good recipe but needs a little extra spice for my tastes.

Honey Wheat Sandwich Rolls

Reviewed: Jun. 20, 2011
This is my new favorite bread recipe. It has a wonderful taste and texture and the addition of the milk and egg makes this wheat bread taste better than most. I added more yeast because I was making this as one loaf in my bread machine and wanted to make sure it rose well. I used 2 tsp. total. I really enjoyed this bread and it made a great turkey-bacon-swiss sandwich today.

Jan's Pretzel Dogs

Reviewed: Jun. 16, 2011
Yum yum! These couldn't have been easier to make. I halved the recipe and ended up with enough dough for 8 hot dogs. The taste is amazing. The pretzel dough on it's own is so good. Thanks for submitting this recipe What's for dinner, mom.

Cream Cheese Blueberry Pie

Reviewed: Jun. 12, 2011
This is a good pie but for me could be better. I think the cream cheese layer needs something, maybe lemon juice to brighten the flavors because otherwise it was extremely bland and I even added vanilla to it. I doubled the cream cheese layer because I had a large size graham cracker crust. The blueberry sauce recipe is a good one and I love the lemon juice in it. Overall a good pie but with some additional flavorings to tweak the cream cheese layer could be five stars.
