About this Cook
Me and my husband of four years are living happily in Denver with our two dogs. My husband does NOT cook at all, so it's up to me to keep us fed with healthy foods rather than his pick of fast-food.
My favorite things to cook
I am much more interested in baking. Breads are my favorite to experiment with, but I enjoy making anything that will suprise and delight those that I serve to.
My favorite family cooking traditions
My mother was a great cook, but she never measured anything. It still amazes me to this day that she can just guesstimate and still turn out a perfect meal every time.

Creamy Au Gratin Potatoes
Have made as listed and it was delish. Had to use bacon the second time 'cause I was out of butter; just crisped up 3 pieces of bacon in a skillet, removed pieces, and used the remaining bacon grease in place of butter. Superb!

To Die For Blueberry Muffins
Have made before and failed to save to my recipe box, soooo happy I found it again. Soured my milk with a splash of tart lemonade, other then that followed muffins exactly. Omitted cinnamon from topping for household preferences. PERFECT muffins everytime!

Egg-Free Dairy-Free Nut-Free Cake
This is the best egg free cake I have ever made. I added Via instant coffee to the water and omitted the chips, but other then that stuck strictly to the recipe. Made 12 perfect cupcakes, with better crowns then any cake I have ever made. I absolutely adore the Victory Chocolate Cake on this site, but my daughter's allergies make it a no go for our house desserts. With the addition of the coffee to this there is no flavor difference, just a slightly more moist/dense crumb This is a great base recipe that can be tweaked for individual tastes, a sign of a great baking recipe! ***Update*** Needed a change of pace, so I adapted to make a yellow cake with these changes: Used 5 Tbls. melted butter in place of oil, increased vanilla to 1 Tbls., and of course omitted the chocolate powder and chips. This came out so light and airy, and the flavor is out of this world!(If butter is off your menu you could probably keep the oil or try another butter flavor substitute).
