About this Cook
I am a mom with picky eater's, so I have learned to be creative and I am always looking for new recipes that my boys will eat. I collect cookbooks and magazines with recipes. I spend more time in my kitchen than I do any other room of my home!!!
My favorite things to cook
I love to make any kind of dessert. I have a sweet tooth and baking is so much fun. Everyone in my family always expects me to bring sweets to our family gatherings!!
My favorite family cooking traditions
We always have homemade dumplings (made by me) for Thanksgiving. My mom also always makes her yummy sweet potato casserole and apple crisp. At Christmas we always make a simple breakfast dessert using doughnuts, pineapple and cinnamon. Santa always's gets rice krispie treats because that is "her" favorite! :o)
My cooking triumphs
Mastering my grandmother's chocolate meringue pie has been my greatest triumph. It takes more technique than anything and I am the only person in my family who has been able to accomplish it. It is required that I make multiple chocolate meringue pies for family gatherings.
My cooking tragedies
The only tragedies I have really had is when I try a new recipe and I just don't like it. I think that happens to anyone who cooks a lot and tries new recipes quite often. Sometimes you come across one that you think might be good and then it's just horrible. I haven't had that happen too often. I can usually tell whether the dish will be good or not just by looking at the combination of ingredients.

Elvis Presley Cake
I needed to make an additional comment. Previously I noted that you needed to scale back the sugar to 1 cup. You also need to poke holes in the cake while it is hot and pour the pineapple mixture over the still warm cake. Do Not drain off the juice. You want it to soak into the cake.

Hornets Nest Cake
I've made this cake many times. I got the recipe from The Cake Mix Doctor, but my recipe does not use non-instant pudding. Mine actually uses the instant pudding and it is always a moist delicious dessert. This is more of a brownie than a cake. I noticed one user made the cake according to the box and that is not correct. For this recipe you must mix the dry cake mix with the pudding. Strange, but it will come out yummy.

Pineapple Glaze for Ham
This is a very simple yet delicious glaze for ham. I used this at Thanksgiving and my ham came out fantastic. Before baking my ham I did make an additional glaze using maybe 1/2 cup dark corn syrup, 1/4 cup honey, and 1/4 cup brown sugar and I coated the ham with this prior to sticking it in the oven. Then I used the pineapple glaze for basting as the recipe instructs you to do. It was the best ham ever. There weren't a lot of leftovers and we quickly wiped those out by having ham and biscuits for breakfast!!!!
