Sloppy Joes II

Reviewed: Sep. 8, 2014
This is a great recipe. This is a simple recipe that is quick and easy and is much better than canned sauce, and I rated it as such. I made as is except used half the sugar and doubled the sauce because I like "sloppy" Joes but either way, the flavor is great and it is ready in no time. I have a super low simmer burner and didn't need to add any water, it gently simmered in a newer non-stick pan for 30 minutes perfectly.

Chesapeake Bay Stuffed Rockfish

Reviewed: Oct. 19, 2013
I made this exactly as stated except I ended up just topping the fish because mine wouldn't roll either, as another reviewer stated. The recipe is really good. I found out I don't care for rockfish. I saved the recipe because the crab filling will be great in other fish. I agree that it is rich and using a little less would help. The flavor is very tasty though - stuffing definitely gets 5 stars. Next time, I think I will add a couple splashes more hot sauce. If you like medium spice, you won't notice anything with 2 dashes. Enjoy!

Good Old Fashioned Pancakes

Reviewed: Mar. 17, 2013
Good recipe. Sifted twice as suggested, made fluffy pancakes (three 7" size). I had to substitue for my lack of milk, I used half 1/2&1/2 and half water. I used 1/2 cup of whole wheat flour (which I normally do in banking) to try and help make it "better" for us but didn't like the flavor of the whole wheat flour. This is a great every day panckae recipe, thanks!

Spicy Glazed Pecans

Reviewed: Oct. 22, 2012
I would have given it 6 stars! I also followed what other reviewers did by adding the salt and I also added some fresh ground pepper. I reduced my oven temperature to 315 thinking I didn't want them to burn. My oven must be on the cool side because I cooked for about 7 extra minutes and the nuts were still a little tiny soft. However, I made a double batch. My husband and I ate them on the salad and then ate almost all of them before i could put them in an air tight container to save them! They are absolutely easy and DELISH! Thanks for the recipe!!

Merritt's Butternut Squash Gratin

Reviewed: Oct. 10, 2012
I made the recipe as is (i happened to have all of the ingredients on hand amazingly) except panko vs. bread crumbs. I thought it was really good and my non-veggie loving husband loved it! We like thyme and rosemary and didn't find it overpowering. I would agree with other reviews, the expensive cheese could be substituted. I will definitely make this again and have already passed on the recipe to a friend.

Garbanzo Bean Tomato Salad

Reviewed: Jul. 21, 2012
I chose this recipe because I was looking for something filling and low cal. The only change I made was add a cuke (to add volume). My husband, who doesn't normally eat this kind of food, loved it. The garbanzo beans really add a lot to the salad. Next time, I will cut the oil in half and add 1 more tablespoon of vinegar and keep the cuke too. Thanks for sharing the recipe!

Strawberry Cake from Scratch

Reviewed: Sep. 23, 2011
You will not find a better recipe, don't even try. This is a little more dense than a box cake. The flavor is great and it's not an all day process to make. I've made this for my teenage son three years in a row now for his birthday. He doesn't want anything else. GothicGirl rocks! Thanks for sharing.

Double Chocolate Chunk Cookies

Reviewed: Sep. 23, 2011
This is a great "turns out perfect every time" recipe that people who love chocolate will love. My husband loves chocolate and we enjoyed these with a nice glass of red wine. If you don't like red wine, I'd suggest having a tall glass of cold milk nearby, you will want it!

Sangria! Sangria!

Reviewed: May 13, 2011
I've never made sangria before but, as other reviewers noted, this is an excellent recipe! It is strong but you won't notice by the flavor. I used a $10 (on sale for $7) shiraz. I would't recommend using the least expensive wine becuase there is a lot of wine flavor through the fruit.

Carrots with Dried Cherries

Reviewed: May 13, 2011
Excellent modified! Like another reviewer, I did't have honey on hand so I used brown sugar. These were delicious. I would have never thought to combine these ingredients and my whole family ate them FIRST! It's a keeper.

Spaghetti Squash I

Reviewed: Sep. 16, 2010
I agree with everyone who stated they have never had this type of squash and don't particularly love squash: THIS ROCKS! I had to modify the recipe because I was missing a couple of ingredients but it still was hands down delish rated by 3 people who fit the above category. And yes, it does need baked longer.

Whole Wheat Refrigerator Rolls

Reviewed: Feb. 16, 2010
I'm new to bread/dinner rolls. This was very easy. I used King Arthur's white whole wheat flour for everything. Our whole family, who aren't fans of whole wheat, LOVED them. I used my mixer with dough hooks and wasn't sure how long to "kneed it." They turned out great.

Banana-Zucchini Bread

Reviewed: Sep. 12, 2009
This is really a great recipe. The only reason I gave it 4 stars was because my family thought it was missing a little something. I make the receipe twice in row using other people's suggestions... added an extra banana, zucchini and pumpkin pie spice. It was really good, I'd have it again but I would still find something else to add.

Zucchini Bread IV

Reviewed: Sep. 12, 2009
I'm sure the original recipe is delicious but I liked adding the suggestions of other reviewers. With the following suggestions, it made it from home made bread to something I would expect to get at a nice bakery: I added the 1/2 teaspoon of nutmeg and an extra cup of zucchini and replaced half the apple sauce with oil. I also added the "crunchy crust" recipe. I also used King Aurther white whole wheat flour. IT WAS AMAZING! The men in my house had no idea that it wasn't as bad for them as they thought :o)

Fish Fillets Italiano

Excellent! Our non-fish loving family ate every last bite. I used italian tomatoes as well. I wasn't sure if you were supposed to drain them and you aren't. I am sure you will enjoy!!

Easy Quiche

Reviewed: Nov. 7, 2008
This is really good for people who don't love traditional quiche. My 15 year old thought it was a bit too fluffy so I am adding an extra egg to see if that helps.

Pecan Breaded Chicken Breasts

Really tasty! I chopped the pecans finely too. It is easy to get them too dark when cooking though, don't leave unattended or it can burn.

We don't care for as much seasoning, so I leave it out and add a dash of Johnny's, it's quite tasty!
