Scottish Oat Scones

Reviewed: Dec. 19, 2010
Great! But I didn't have raisins and left them out and put in slivered almonds. Definitely needs raisins or currants.

Oatmeal Raisin Cookies IV

Meh. I made adjustments, good texture, but they still tasted like baking soda. Not my favorite.

Garlic Broccoli

Reviewed: Oct. 12, 2009
This turned out way better than I thought! Definitely more than the sum of it's parts. I used apple vinegar since I had it with no problem.

Cinnamon Bread I

Reviewed: Sep. 29, 2009
I think these would make better muffins than bread. The texture and taste is more like a muffin.

Creamed Carrot Strips

Reviewed: Sep. 28, 2009
Pretty tasty! I was specifically looking for recipes that use tarragon. From experience using creams with flour and milk before, I find it easier to mix the milk and flour together before adding them to the pan.

with 2 cloves of garlic and celery. The roasted peacans/walnuts are worth it!

Russian Vegetable Pie

Reviewed: Jan. 25, 2009
My Russian boyfriend recognized the recipe, but thought that the cream cheese was odd. We tried it both ways, and MAKING IT WITHOUT THE CHEESE IS WAY BETTER. I also increased the spices by half. I really liked the mushrooms and cabbage, but next time I may add carrots as well. This makes enough filling for two pies, so be sure to have four crusts on hand (two for the tops). I use the premade crusts, precrisped at 375 for 15 minutes, and they always turn out perfect.

Awesome Sausage, Apple and Cranberry Stuffing

Reviewed: Jan. 21, 2009
I use this without the meat for a vegitarian option and it is just great. I add a little broth to make up for the lack of fat/grease.

Chickpea Curry

Reviewed: Jan. 19, 2009
We made this after making 'Spinach Chick Pea Curry' also on this site. I recommend this recipe instead!! The cinnamon in this is overpowering, this tasted more like cookies than curry. Also, this recipe is doubled from what to me would be a normal size. My boyfriend made sure that I would give this rating the lowest possible. We will never make it again!

Cut the sugar in half. Nice!! Can't wait to try it with oranges. Definitely peeling the lemon skin is the only way to go.

Lemon Soup

Reviewed: Dec. 21, 2008
Good recipe. I didn't whip the eggs at all, or separate the whites. It worked fine! I recommend letting the soup sit for a bit before serving so that the orzo can fully puff up.

Doubled the spices and added mace, pepper and cloves as suggested by reviewer. I was introduced to cardamom cookies in Denmark and Sweden years ago. LOVE IT.

California Italian Wedding Soup

Reviewed: Dec. 3, 2008
Awesome! Thanks! Just for interest sake, we found out (accidentally), that if you double the pasta and let it sit for while, it will turn into a caserole! It seems better as a soup. ^_^

Turkish Halwa

Reviewed: Dec. 3, 2008
EDIT: The first time I made this it came out perfect, the second and third times I had the problems of other reviewers. Here are my tips: let the molasses/water boil for 10 minutes or so to reduce before mixing it in. Spread onto a baking sheet, and let cool. Cut into diamonds or other easy shapes when you're done. I thought this recipe was great. I didn't know what it was when I started making it, but it is a nice sweet. I like that it doesn't use refined sugar, only molases. And the texture is really interesting!
