I'm an attorney from the Cleveland, Ohio area but stay home full-time with my infant daughter and four year-old. Since being married and having a child, my interest in cooking has been allowed to flourish. My mother and grandmother and a close aunt were all amazing cooks. I enjoy cooking and looking at recipes. It's the thing I enjoy most and probably should have done it professionally instead of becoming a lawyer!
My favorite things to cook
I really enjoy cooking with wine lately and have found several great recipes on this site that involve wine. Three favorites are "Oven Pot Roast" which has white wine, "Chicken and Red Wine Sauce" and "Rosemary Chicken with Orange-Maple Glaze". There are so many other things I love to cook and bake but these are some of my favorites from this site.
My favorite family cooking traditions
We always make a big deal about holidays and are known for going "all out" when we have guests over. I like to wow people with something unexpectedly special. My paternal grandparents were immigrants from Ireland. They prided themselves on providing a memorable and generous meal for family and friends gathering at their home. Generosity = pride for the Irish. My maternal grandmother was a baker that many aspired to imitate but failed. Friends and family waited with baited breath at the holidays for a tray of cookies & baked goods from my grandmother. It was tradition, so much so that when we celebrated our first Christmas without her this year, I knew everyone would be missing her and thinking about her dessert trays. So I made a cookbook of her most beloved recipes with a photo of her in an apron on the front and presented one to family gathered at our home that year. The women in my life made our holidays and every days so much more memorable with lovingly prepared dishes.
My cooking triumphs
My pot roast is pretty unbeatable. My 86 year-old father-in-law is addicted to it.
My cooking tragedies
Too many to list but I serve them up without apology because who among us hasn't had something fall short of perfection in our kitchen?
