About this Cook
I live in VA Beach, Va. I have been cooking and baking for a long time now. My mother taught me to make everything from chocolate cake to braised ribs when I was a teenager. Now, my husband is the recipient of these wonderful creations.
My favorite things to cook
I love to bake desserts. The more intricate the better. I absolutely refuse to use a box mix for anything now. If I cannot make it from scratch I don't make it.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Baking Christmas cookies. My mom and I would do it every year.
My cooking triumphs
My first entire Thanksgiving meal by myself. I made a turkey with all the trimmings! The stuffing was fantastic and moist. The gravy turned out sooo good. I am looking forward to this year so I can do it again.
My cooking tragedies
My first attempt at a "roux" was not what I had hoped it would be. I didn't let the flour and butter cook long enough before adding the cream. It was lumpy and didn't have much flavor. It's a good thing it was just to try the recipe before I made it for my family.

Cinnamon Apple Syrup
This was very good. Had to add some cornstarch to thicken the syrup. Next time I won't add watwr, as it is not needed once the apples cook down a little. Used as a topping for pancakes. Hubby loved it, will definitely make again. Thanks for sharing.

Mrs. Kurtz's Banana Bread
This is a very versatile banana bread recipe. I felt like it needed some cinnamon and chopped walnuts. These ingredients were added in and I got rave reviews from my hubby and my co-workers. This is most definitely going to be my go to banana bread recipe! Thanks for sharing.

Seven Layer Dip I
I took this to a New Year's Eve party and people couldn't get enough. I will definitely make this again.
