Egg Sandwich

Reviewed: Mar. 23, 2014
Great base recipe, but I had to do a few changes. For instance, I toasted the bread while the egg was cooking, and after it was hot enough to melt the cheese. Also I sprayed my cup with no-stick spray, added a pat of butter and a teaspoon of Creole seasoning along with fresh pepper, stirred it after 45 seconds. A great base recipe to adjust to your taste.

Grandma Ople's Apple Pie

Reviewed: Nov. 3, 2008
I have never baked an apple pie so I was so nervous about making this recipe. However it is very simple and easy to do! But best of all this is one of the best apple pies I have tasted! Now I actually DON'T like apple pie as it usually just is kinda blah to me...this one was not! My family adored it and it was gone the next day. Thank you so much for sharing such a delightful recipe!

Cheddar Bay Biscuits

Reviewed: Aug. 11, 2008
I made these for a summer party yesterday and they turned out really great! One thing I may change is I may add milk instead of water, as some people suggested. I made them as suggested and they seemed just slightly dry (to me, anyway). Also they need to bake a bit longer. But they have a great flavor and were enjoyed by everyone. I will make them again. These would go great with a hearty stew or soup in the winter!

Juicy Fruit Salad

Reviewed: Aug. 11, 2008
I made this for a summer family party and it was a huge hit! I added a jar of maraschino cherries, which gave it a bit more sweetness that everyone seemed to enjoy - so much, that this was the one dish that was empty! It is a very simple recipe, but one you can add to as you wish. Thanks!

Taco Pie

Reviewed: Jun. 26, 2008
This became one of my families favorites in an instant! I ended up using a round glass casserole dish as I didn't have a square pan and it turned out great. It was a bit hard to lay the rolls out but I managed to make it look neat and clean. I made this exactly as the directions state except I didn't use all of the tortilla chips and added a side of yellow rice. It looked suprisingly beautiful (as the dish was clear) and was a hearty, satisfying meal. It was easy to make and cost me about $10 to feed 6 people and have leftovers - a major plus in my book! This IS a basic recipe, but a GREAT basic recipe - as well as one you can add to as you wish. This is definitely a keeper! Thanks for sharing!

One Bowl Chocolate Cake III

Reviewed: Jun. 21, 2008
Great recipe! Very easy to make and it came out tasting great! The batter is thin, almost watery like, and that scared me at first but I remembered other reviewers warnings and went with it - glad I did. Very moist. I upped the cocoa to 1 cup and used a 9 x 13 pan, baked for 35 minutes and it was perfect. This was actually my first attempt at homemade cake and everyone was impressed! Thanks so much!

Cool Cucumber Salsa

Reviewed: Jun. 20, 2008
Made this according to the directions a few nights ago and in a word - amazing! I love salsa and adore cucumbers (especially in the summer!) and this was a huge hit for all the kids and adults alike. Lots of flavor and it is a great twist for an old favorite. A keeper! Thanks!

Special Buttercream Frosting

Reviewed: Jun. 20, 2008
I just made this and am not fond of the shortening in it - I can definitely taste it and it is a bit 'greasy' to me. I do use recipes for frosting with shortening in it but it is usually boiled, maybe that makes a big difference in the crisco flavoring. But it looks nice and spreads well. I am going to make an all butter one for the cake I just made and put this in the fridge for something else instead.

A Good Easy Garlic Chicken

Reviewed: Jun. 20, 2008
Very good, very simple, very easy - and I didn't have to run out to the store to buy anything special. I followed the directions but added a bit as I used 6 breasts instead. Couldn't ask for a more simpler recipe! Thanks!

The Best Rolled Sugar Cookies

Reviewed: Jun. 15, 2008
Very, very good. However I like a more buttery cut out cookie and these taste a bit dry and 'flour-y' (meaning you can taste the flour). I even doubled the vanilla and they were still a bit blah to me. They bake extremely well and are fairly easy to make. I halfed the recipe and still had enough for days. A bit bland alone so I frosted them with white buttercream. They have held up very well and I have stored them for 2 days now - they still haven't gotten hard or crumbly. Again, these are great I just think they are a bit too bland for me personally. They would be great for company and bake sales though!

Easy Sugar Cookies

Reviewed: Jun. 13, 2008
Very good. I had to add a bit of water to my mixture as it was very dry but they came out very nice. They came out lightly brown and chewy. I dipped the top half in sugar for extra sweetness. My only gripe was they got a bit hard and crumbly after a day of being stored away - and I stored them in an airtight container. Overall, a very good recipe.

Mrs. Sigg's Snickerdoodles

Reviewed: Jun. 4, 2008
Great recipe! I substituted butter for the shortening (I didn't have any on hand) and they came out perfect. I left them in for 9 minutes and they came out crispy on the outside and chewy on the inside - exactly how I wanted them to! My family just loves them - say they are a 'downright great recipe'. We are even adding this to our Christmas Cookie Lineup and we haven't added a new one in ten years! Thanks for sharing it!

Three Cheese Manicotti II

Reviewed: Feb. 3, 2008
Very good recipe! I added a bit of garlic to the meat and I didn't cook the shells (increased temp to 400 degrees, added 1 cup water to the sauce and upped the time to 55 minutes) and it turned out great and fairly easy to make. I used a regular butter knife to 'stuff' the uncooked shells and it worked great. I ended up with a bit too much sauce, but other than that I will be making this one again. Thanks!

Garlic Cheddar Chicken

Reviewed: Jan. 18, 2008
I made this one as written and I just wasn't thrilled with this. It seemed a bit bland to me and my husband, even though I am not a huge fan of 'spicy' foods. It was, however, pretty simple to make (a huge plus with me!!) and I liked the 'outside' of it...but again, a bit too mild for me...not sure why.

Mini Meatloaves

Reviewed: Jan. 13, 2008
I made this one last night and I now have a favorite meatloaf recipe! My husband loved it ~ there were no leftovers. I have a new baby and this was easy to make up while he was napping and shove in the fridge for a few hurs, and pop in the oven when ready to cook. I ended up with 6 mini loaves, and I just added a pinch of regular sugar to the sauce (no brown sugar) and it was perfect, not too sweet at all. I added some garlic salt to the mix as well. I also used seasoned bread crumbs instead of oats. I will definitely make this one again.

Baked Spaghetti

Reviewed: Dec. 27, 2007
Great recipe ~ especially for moms. I was going to make regular spaghetti, even though I am so sick of it, but with a week old baby I needed a recipe I could make ahead and have my husband throw in the oven. I found this one, tried it and we loved it!! However, I did change a bit based on other reviewers ~ I used ricotta instead of cottage cheese, me and hubby don't care for cottage cheese. I also doubled the sauce (glad I did) and added some garlic powder to the meat. A snmall side salad and garlic bread makes this a great satisfying meal. It makes alot ~ we have a half pan leftover, so it also makes for two full dinners and then some. I will definitely make this one again!

Simply Lasagna

Reviewed: Nov. 18, 2007
I made this last night for me and my husband and we both really liked it. I did double the Ricotta and add an extra can of sauce, a bit more mozzarella. I was very nervous about not cooking the noodles, but it turned out fine. Also, there is no way it can be 12 servings ~ with two of us there is only half a pan left! But it's very easy to make, even for beginners, it's economical (cost me around $12 for all the ingrediants) and I will definitely make this one again.
