Excellent recipe. I made this for our churches new member dinner with one change. I substituted Craisins for the golden raisins. Not only was it flavorful, it made a beautiful fall dish. One man couldn't get enough of it. He was walking around with just a plate of rice eating it. I served it with the Chicken Wellington from this site and it was a perfect side dish. We will have this for Christmas this year.

One of the Elder's wives said she thought it was the best meal we had ever served. I served it with the Cashew Raisin Rice Pilaf (substituting Craisins for Raisins) which was also a hit as well as being beautiful to the eye. We made it as individual servings and it served up beautifully. If you include the garlic and onion you have a great flavor. Plan on repeating this again and again and will probably include in my Christmas dinner menu.

This is almost exactly the same recipe that my mother-in-law gave me years ago. It is their family favorite so I had to make sure I knew how to make it. The only difference in my recipe is that I use white corn syrup instead of the dark, but it is delicious! I call it the poor man pecan pie.

I make a meal for my church once a quarter and they hold an orientation for new members. This was the featured main dish of the night and everyone loved it. We were cleaning up and I found my can of green chilies on the counter, so they got left out. So disapointed about that. Will make this again and for the family as well. A critical point is to make sure you have great bacon. That is where your flavor comes from.

GREAT SALAD! I do a meal once a quarter for our church. I made this salad and served it with Bacon Wrapped Chicken. The MEN were coming into the kitchen and telling me what a good salad it was. Whatever you do don't leave out the pecans. They make the salad.

Had to try this cake and it is very good. Thank you to Laura for summarizing the changes. I would add one more. It didn't taste quite sweet enough for my taste so I added 1/2 cup more sugar, and when I make it again I think another 1/2 cup should make it just perfect. Mine fell in the middle for some reason when testing to see if it was done, but it was a hit at our Staff meeting here at work today. I also love the fact that is makes enough for 3 layers or a 15X11 cake. Used butter cream icing with it and it was easy to ice. Good to have a home made recipe as I have always used a mix for white cake before.

I made this recipe and took it to work and got rave reviews from everyone.
