Easy OREO Truffles

Reviewed: Dec. 21, 2011
These were good, but not great. They tasted exactly like an oreo dipped in chocolate... which is exactly what they are, but for some reason I thought the cream cheese would impart at least a little flavor into the finished product. Next time I will try using mint flavored oreos or a bit of raspberry jam to add flavor as another reviewer suggested.

Loosemeat Sandwiches III

Reviewed: Sep. 21, 2011
(The original recipe was great exactly as is and definitely 5 stars, but changing it up a bit made it even better, imo.) I cooked the ground beef w/chopped onion and covered halfway during cooking to steam beef. I also followed another reviewers suggestion and replaced the water with one can of chicken broth, a little Worcestershire and added half a teaspoon of paprika. This was delicious.

Chocolate Covered Peppermint Patties

Reviewed: Apr. 16, 2011
This recipe was really easy and fun to make and tastes great. I was able to make 80 half dollar sized patties, but the amount of chocolate called for in the recipe only covered 20 of them and I only got that many because I made sure to thinly coat them and tapped off all the excess chocolate from each one. This would definitely be a five star recipe, but it gets a four from me for needing four times the called for amount of chocolate to finish coating all the patties.

Baked Bar-be-Que Chicken

Reviewed: Jan. 4, 2011
I made this with 3lbs of skinless, boneless chicken breast, 1 tsp of garlic powder, 1 tsp of onion powder, and a little black pepper. Cover and bake for 20 minutes at 400, brush on 1/2 cup of bbq sauce and return to oven for 10 minutes uncovered, brush remaining 1/2 of bbq sauce over top and return to oven for 10-15 minutes until chicken is done. Normally, I don't like chicken done this way because the outside is the only flavorful part, but the onion and garlic powders helped to flavor all of the meat so even the inside was flavorful and moist.

Delicious Black Bean Burritos

Reviewed: May 21, 2010
I made this recipe exactly as written, but because it is suppose to only be enough for two burritos, I doubled everything (except cilantro). The original amount would have easily made five or six burritos unless you are packing a tortilla so full of filling that the sides won't meet when folded over. I thought this was going to be a wonderful meal as I was making it, but then when I added the cream cheese it all went wrong. The smell immediately filled the kitchen...I can't quite put my finger on it, but it wasn't appetizing. Despite my better judgment, I soldiered on and presented this along side cheese, sour cream, salsa.. you know, traditional burrito accompaniments. When we finally were able to make it past the first bite we found the cilantro (which you'll remember was not doubled) was too overpowering and we really like cilantro. The consistency of this recipe was too chunky too enjoy. There was way too much onion/pepper in comparison to the beans. All of those things can easily be fixed though simply by adding or removing things until everything is to your (my) liking. However, I still wouldn't make these again because they were bland, the jalapeno (I put extra) was nonexistent, there was no garlic flavoring, no heat, no spice.. just lots of cilantro and cream cheese. I very rarely rate things poorly here, but when I make something that smells like a wet cigarette I'm definitely speaking up!

Chess Pie

Reviewed: May 19, 2010
The pie was beautiful, but the flavor was less than desirable, like egg flavored custard. I definitely won't make this again. I'm only giving it two stars because it was still edible despite the flavor.

Strawberry Pie II

Reviewed: May 16, 2010
I would have given this five stars except the middle of the pie never set. The top was firm, but once it was sliced the filling spread everywhere. I cooked the mashed strawberries for 15 minutes even though the mixture thickened up almost as soon as the pan went on the burner. I also left the pie in the refrigerator for more than 24 hours, so it had more than enough time to fully set. It was still delicious and I'll definitely make this again, but it won't be something that I'll make to set out in front of company because it didn't hold shape when served.

Homemade Black Bean Veggie Burgers

Reviewed: Apr. 28, 2010
Delicious! I doubled the recipe, but only added 1.5 tablespoons of cumin and chili powder. We were very skeptical about this recipe, but the burgers are delicious. This is definitely going to be a "do again" recipe.

Puffs

Reviewed: Apr. 21, 2010
Delicious! The only alteration I made was to leave out the green onions due to personal preference. I know these will be a big hit every time I make them. Edit to original review: We now bake these instead of frying them. I cut a large egg roll wrapper into four squares using a pizza cutter and then tuck the squares into mini muffin cups and fill them with the cream cheese mixture. I put them in the oven at 350 until the corners of the wrappers start to brown. They are delicious that way. Fried is still good, but doing it this way eliminates 80% of the work and it's worth it!

Simple Turkey Chili

Reviewed: Mar. 26, 2010
This was delicious! I only added half the water and included an extra can of beans that I didn't mash. I only gave this four stars because no one thought it had any heat... not even a hint. I'll definitely use this recipe again, but it definitely needs some tweaking.

Tasty Lentil Tacos

Reviewed: Feb. 6, 2010
I made these tacos using beef broth instead of chicken broth because that's what I had on hand. I'll definitely make these again, but it didn't taste close enough to regular tacos to completely replace them.

Fluffy French Toast

Reviewed: Jan. 10, 2010
This recipe was ok, but nothing special. The flour caused it to cook like a pancake on the outside of the toast and the inside of the toast stayed soggy. I even tried cooking the bread pieces longer, but all that did was make the outside brown more than I wanted. It was good, but next time I'll probably just stick to my own recipe.

Funnel Cakes I

Reviewed: Aug. 19, 2009
These were great. I only used one egg for the batter and one cup of oil for frying and it worked perfectly. I also added one tsp of vanilla for a little extra flavor. We will definitely be making these again.

Country Apple Dumplings

Reviewed: Aug. 13, 2009
This recipe is amazingly simple and delicious. When making this I use only one cup of sugar, half a can of mountain dew, and also add one teaspoon of vanilla. When you serve this make sure that you spoon some of the sauce over the top of your dumpling or even your ice cream. It's divine!

Super Sausage Gravy

Reviewed: Apr. 6, 2009
I have failed miserably at making gravy more times than I care to count. This recipe was perfect. I can't believe that after all these years I am finally able to make biscuits and gravy at home instead of having to go out for it. This is the best sausage gravy I've ever had.

Chantal's New York Cheesecake

Reviewed: Mar. 27, 2009
I followed the recipe exactly. The graham cracker crust was way too thick and not sweet enough to compliment the cheesecake, so next time I'll reduce the number of crackers or possibly replace them with another cookie. Otherwise, this was a hit and I will definitely be making it again.

This recipe is extremely easy to make and tastes exactly like the monkey bread I used to eat as a child. I omitted the raisins and nuts.

Sloppy Joes II

Reviewed: Dec. 11, 2008
This recipe saved a meal that I was about to throw out!! I made sloppy joes last night from a recipe in my well known red/white checked cookbook... they were bland and flavorless. Since this recipe shared many of the ingredients from that recipe I decided to go ahead and add the remaining ingredients that the other recipe didn't have... ketchup, mustard, and brown sugar. The difference was unbelievable! I will never try another sloppy joe recipe again. Actually, I only made sloppy joes because everyone else likes them... I have always hated them. Not anymore!! If I could give this more than 5 stars I definitely would!

Deviled Eggs

Reviewed: Nov. 28, 2008
I have been making deviled eggs like these for years, but it always seemed as if something was missing. I have never included sugar in my deviled eggs, but since this recipe is so close to my own I went ahead and tried it. The sugar added the "bite" that I was missing from my own recipe. The only change I made from this recipe was to add two tablespoons of sweet relish. These were delicious!
