Brunch Potato Casserole

Reviewed: Jan. 12, 2009
This recipe is so ridiculously good it should be a sin!!! My hubby made it for our Christmas brunch and all of our guests raved for days about it...it will become a staple dish in our house. However, it is pretty onion heavy so you may want to halve the amount called for if you don't care for too many.

French Toast Casserole

A fantastically easy and tasty recipe. One in which you can sub english muffins or other styles of bread in and can also mix up and refrigerate the night before.

Pan Pierogies

Reviewed: Mar. 24, 2009
We call these Poor Man's Pierogies in my family...a staple dish. Lots of butter and sauteed onions make it. Easily punch it up to your tastes with a blend of cheeses (I like colby jack and cheddar). Great for large gatherings and a snap to make.

Sara's Pumpkin Pie

Reviewed: Oct. 5, 2009
This is a great, classic pumpkin pie recipe. Although you can use canned pumpkin it tastes best with fresh pumpkin (I prefer to half/seed/foil wrap/then bake my pie pumpkin at 350 for an hour then scoop into a bowl and mash it. If you like your pie a little sweeter you can add about 1/4 C. more sugar to it, but otherwise you can't go wrong with this recipe at all!

Oil Pie Crust

Reviewed: Oct. 29, 2009
This makes a great, flaky crust! Like another reviewer mentioned, I roll my dough between sheets of plastic wrap so I don't ruin the dough by handling it too much or adding excessive flour...I really recommend that method (plus it keeps your table top neat as a pin!). Also, you can add a dash of vanilla or almond extract for a slightly more flavorful crust should you prefer.

Candy Cane Cookies III

Reviewed: Dec. 13, 2010
I love these cookies and have made them for years. I lost the recipe and was so glad to find it here! What I like best about these cookies is that they have a very mild mint flavor. If you are looking for a stronger flavor you should double the amount of peppermint extract, but I find they are perfect as the recipe is written.

Old Fashioned Mac and Cheese

Reviewed: Nov. 24, 2011
Super good, a classic recipe! I omitted the swiss and had to add some extra milk and some butter while it was cooking because it seemed a bit dry for my taste...so check it midway through...but even so, this was delish!

Candied Sweet Potatoes

A delicious classic. On a side note...you can easily do this in a crock pot to save oven space during the holidays. ;)

Homestyle Turkey, the Michigander Way

Reviewed: Nov. 24, 2011
I followed this recipe during my first attempt at a turkey dinner...it turned out amazing! So moist and the meat was falling off the bone while I transferred it to the plate. This is now my forever thanksgiving turkey recipe...thanks!

Pumpkin Pecan Cheesecake

Reviewed: Nov. 23, 2012
Holy cow, this is so amazingly yummy! I tried this recipe for Thanksgiving and it was a huge hit! I will admit that I was put off at first that I had to make pumpkin butter in order to make this cheesecake but it was *well worth the extra step*. It was no problem at all and the pumpkin butter noted in this recipe is also amazing. Do it...make this dish now! BTW...I also went ahead and doubled the amount of topping in order to better cover the whole of the pie.

Pecan Pie IV

Reviewed: Jan. 12, 2009
This is a very "full" recipe so you need a deep dish pie shell...which means it will probably take longer to set depending in your oven so you may want to consider foiling over your crust for the first 10 minutes or so to keep it from getting overly brown. Aside from that...YUMMY!

You can't beat this classic! To punch it up you can sub sour cream for the milk and add sliced mushrooms. Yum!

Sweet Potato Pie I

Reviewed: Oct. 29, 2009
This was my first attempt at a sweet potato pie and I loved how easy this recipe looked so I gave it a go. I used canned sweet potatoes rather than fresh and since I had a large can I doubled the recipe to make two pies, which is quite easy to do then you can simply freeze the second unbaked pie for an easy thaw and bake treat later. Overall this is an awesome pie. The only reason I am not giving it 5 stars is because it's a lot sweeter than I prefer. But a little sugar adjustment (for my taste) and this recipe is a keeper!

The Best Rolled Sugar Cookies

Reviewed: Aug. 17, 2010
Very nice, thick cookies. They bake up nice and quick too. I do have to say that I added a bit more sugar, but not a full cup as other suggested and I think if I had they would have been way too sweet since I use a powdered sugar glaze on sugar cookies. And my only complaint with these cookies is that here in the humid south I needed to put a TON more flour in them than what was listed in the ingredients. ***EDIT*** Just to note...I lived in a humid environment when I noted the heaps of extra flour needed and now that I live in an arid environment I only added a touch extra flour for rolling. I had not considered that when I wrote the review. Again...awesome recipe!

Special Buttercream Frosting

Reviewed: Oct. 30, 2011
I like the texture and how thick it is for decorating and frosting with tips, but it's a bit rich in my opinion. I used butter flavored Crisco...don't know if that had much of an impact on that or not. I will still use this again, but with a few tweaks (like a bit more sugar) next time. Overall a good base frosting recipe.
