Chicken Livers with Red Wine and Bacon
I thought I liked liver...but this recipe makes me think that maybe I don't! It was just too bland for me, so all I could taste was the liver. I made it with mushrooms instead of olives, and the result was warming and filling, but kinda blah. I'd suggest using a really nice wine--following the old advice not to cook with a wine you wouldn't enjoy drinking--and maybe it would be better. Still, if you're a liver-lover or a person who doesn't like spicy food, this would probably hit the spot.

Lentil Soup
mmmmm.....what a delicious soup. I made a few changes based on what other reviewers have said and what I had on hand. I used celery root, added less olive oil, and doubled the garlic, basil, and oregano. I used more tomatoes, and chicken broth instead of water. I didn't have any spinach, but the recipe doesn't need it (although I bet it's good). I wanted to add port, like someone else said, but since I didn't have any I just sweetened some merlot I had on hand and put it in with the balsamic vinegar. Sooooo good!!

Roasted Garlic Lemon Broccoli
LOVE THIS!!! I felt it was maybe a BIT heavy on the pepper, and I usually love pepper so much that I over-pepper my food! But other than that, delicious. I did use juice from an extra-tart mandarin orange: I'd run out of lemons, but I wanted that citrus tang, and those mandarins were too tart for my tastes. It was a decent substitute, but next time I'll be sure to have a lemon on hand.
