Apricot Pie

Reviewed: May 26, 2013
When the other reviewers say this is tart... WOW, it is SOUR-TART. I didn't pay the other reviewers comment about tartness much attention, but boy, I wish I did. It was so tart that even with the ice cream, no one in my family could finish their piece of pie. If I had to make it again, I would double the sugar, at least. The crust was good. Also, I thought it would turn out alot like a peach pie, but the texture of the apricots ends up being more gloppy than a peach pie, so that wasn't as good either.

Dutch Apple Dessert

Reviewed: Aug. 22, 2011
I made it exactly as stated. The apple part on the bottom layer was pasty and unappealing. My husband wouldn't touch it. And I wish I wouldn't have eaten the one piece, it didn't taste good at all, so not a good calorie trade off either.

Mrs. Sigg's Fresh Pumpkin Pie

Reviewed: Mar. 13, 2011
great recipe as written. i accidentally overcooked it 30 minutes and it turned out great anyway. with the foil, the crust didn't overcook, and it was not too loose at all.

I tried to make it healthy by subbing applesauce, splenda and whole wheat flour. It was really soggy.

Banana Crumb Muffins

Reviewed: Sep. 9, 2009
tasted good, but the topping sunk into the center of the muffins and so all the muffins had a hole in the center. mine did not turn out like the picture.

Soft Breadsticks

Reviewed: Aug. 26, 2009
Added a little more flour when kneading because dough was a little sticky. Also used 1/2 whole wheat flour. Instead of rolling it out into individual sticks, i flattened the dough into a rectangle on the prepped cookie sheet, and then used a pizza cutter to cut it into sticks. Instead of the butter and sesame seeds, I used butter-flavor cooking spray and sprayed the sticks, and then added some light spices on top (garlic, onion salt, italian seasoning, and molly mcbutter). Cooked 12 minutes. They were great with spaghetti sauce for dipping.

Tortillas I

Reviewed: May 1, 2009
this is the first recipe I have ever given a 1 star. They seemed dry, the dough was really tough so it was incredibly hard to roll out, and I am sweating and my arms are sore from rolling out 8 tortillas, which was the yield from half a batch. I rolled as hard as I could, and they are thin, but probably not thin enough. for all the effort, they don't even taste that good. need a bit more flavor...maybe more salt. sorry, but i won't make this one again. i will keep looking for a easier recipe. they aren't even very round. i am embarassed to show my husband, because everything i cook usually comes out great. i think i will use these in enchiladas so he can't see what they look like!

Awesome Egg Salad with a Kick

Reviewed: Apr. 12, 2009
This was pretty good. I also added crushed red pepper, a little diced green olives with pimento, a little diced hot jalapeno, sliced green onion, and a little bleu cheese dressing. It was served on open-faced rye toast. It was a great way to use up those extra Easter Eggs!

Chicken and Dumplings IV

Reviewed: Apr. 9, 2009
I added spice and baking powder to the dumplings, but they were still too thick and rubbery. The flavor of the broth was good (although I added cayanne pepper, seasoning salt, and carrots), but I MUST continue looking for a better recipe for the dumplings, which were OK, edible, but disappointing.

Restaurant-Style Buffalo Chicken Wings

Reviewed: Feb. 2, 2009
this was too "skinny" and too "fatty" for us to like. next time, i am going to cut boneless, skinless, chicken breasts into chunks and do the same recipe, and I think it'll be absolutely fabulous. i bought "wings" for this recipe, and regretted it. stick with the higher quality meats if you are used to that!

I thought this was great. Used leftover white rice, no shrimp cuz didn't have any, and added garlic. We thought it tasted just like panda express. yay! do not omit the sesame oil!

Chicken Pot Pie IX

Reviewed: Jan. 29, 2009
I doubled the recipe, used a big rectangle pan, and a big bag of mixed veggies. I also added 1/2 c fat free sour cream to the sauce and 1 c of cheese. also, instead of the crust, i used one small package of corn muffin mix, 1 egg, and 3/4 c milk, mix well, and spread on top. cook for 30 min at 400. also added alot of extra spices.

Sweet and Spicy Nuts

Reviewed: Jan. 29, 2009
i read the reviews and changed the recipe. i made this with some old pistachios. i cooked the nuts on a pan with a tbsp butter. then, i made the sauce with the spice measurements stated, but i used 1.5 tbsp water, and used splenda instead of the sugar. i also added about 6 light shakes of cayenne pepper (should have added more). then, stirred sauce on nuts, and baked at 350 for 10 min. they are pretty good. i liked the curry spice in it that some reviewers said was weird. just thought they were not spicy enough.

Seven Layer Dip I

Reviewed: Jan. 28, 2009
i have tried this recipe several ways, but here are 2 of my favorite variations: use fahita chicken instead of beef and beans. also, you can cook the dip and it melds together and tastes great. try cooking 20 min at 350

Jamie's Cranberry Spinach Salad

Reviewed: Jan. 28, 2009
pretty dang good. i added a little sliced red onion, omitted poppy seeds, and added feta cheese. i also reduced the oil by half and substituted splenda for sugar. ummy-yummy! For me and my husband, i made the salad and dressing separate, and put half the salad and dressing in separate containers for tomorrow, and then mixed the other half for tonight. we both ate alot of salad tonight and are looking forward to more tomorrow night, when i will mix the 2nd half.

Drop Biscuits and Gravy

Reviewed: Jan. 13, 2009
I give it 5 stars for the gravy, but not the biscuits. I thought the biscuits were dense and rubbery. For myself, my husband and my son, I double the recipe and don't have much leftovers. It is pretty meaty. Next time I am going to use 1 lb sausage, and multiply the rest of the gravy ingredients by 4 so that the gravy is not so meaty, and so that we have leftovers.
