Old Settlers' Baked Beans

Reviewed: Sep. 9, 2011
delicious. lots of flavor! made this and corn bread for a picnic. we arrive at the picnic, and I notice people are enjoying it pretty quickly. I look and see that my husband had left both on the table for appetizers. I just shook my head!! no harm done. actually, they got a lot of attention eating it then! LOL.

Granny Mabel's Best Bar Cookies

Reviewed: Jun. 20, 2011
Yummy!! Nice and sweet, so ok to cut in smaller pieces. Foil your pan so you can pull it out and trim up the edges before cutting. I've made them a few times. A good recipe to make ahead of time and put in fridge/freezer.

Frosted Banana Bars

Reviewed: Jan. 28, 2009
I liked this recipe a lot. They surprised me. The reason I tried it is because I needed to bring a dessert some where and this got so many great reviews. I generally don't like banana flavor. But this recipe set me straight! They were great tasting the day I made them, but I personally liked them better the next day, cold. I used Cream Cheese Frosting II to top them off. One last thing, don't forget you can microwave your banana's if they don't seem ripe enough. I had read about doing it (this recipe??), and it really worked. I broke up my yellow banana in a bowl, and microwaved it for 12 seconds. Then I mashed it. I think I ended up putting it back in for a few more seconds. The bars were great.

Cream Cheese Squares

Reviewed: Jan. 28, 2009
To get my chocolate fix, I added a layer of Nutella over the cream cheese. I put a little Nutella in a dish, and warmed it in the microwave for a few seconds, just long enough for an easier spreading consistancy. yum. There was extra of the cream cheese mixture, so I saved it. I had an extra can of cresent rolls, so I split the rolls individually, spread a layer of the cream cheeese, rolled them up, and topped them with the butter-sugar-cinnamon step from the recipe. Baked according to the can directions. Great warm or cold (like the Squares).

Mini Crescent Burgers

Reviewed: Feb. 16, 2008
My family really liked these. Half onion, other half taco. Put the american cheese and pickle on the onion. Used full size cresent rolls. I brought them to a party once and one person yelled - ewww is there a pickle in here? And the damage was done, people avoided them like the plague and wouldn't try them. I'll be honest - I was looking forward to taking them back home. But the host gave me back my empty plate and said they couldn't wait to eat them tomorrow. I was like yeah, right - it was your husband who didn't like the pickle! Anyway, I WOULD make them again, perfect soup, sandwich and a salad meal.

Chocolate Billionaires

These were very good. Can't have just one! The first step is very sticky, so be sure to use the wax paper. I sprayed everything (spatula etc) with Pam. People are surprised that only few items are needed to get such a great candy.

Bacon Water Chestnut Rolls

Reviewed: Feb. 15, 2008
This has made my "automatic" list. It has never let me down! Everyone loves these things! I use 2 cans whole, 1 pound bacon cut in half, baked 1/2 hour, turn them over, bake 15 minutes. I don't bother with tooth picks. Then I pour the sause over it all and bake for about 25-30 more minutes (nice and bubbly). I've made them with different flavored Thai Chili Sause's(garlic, sweet, any kind - you can't go wrong). Using a Thai sause does kick it up a notch! One party I brought these the guests were all women, who politely ate them (put them on dish and sat down),while at another party the guys just stood there and ate one after another after another.....

Banana Pudding IV

Reviewed: Jan. 1, 2008
great dessert. quick, easy and delicious. when I went to the store to get some banana's - they were all green. so I used banana chips instead. I layered them over the cookie base. the dessert had about 3 hours to sit, and the chips did soften a bit (still had a little crunch). I think they would have softened more if I had put a thin layer of pudding down on top of the cookies, then the chips, then the rest of the pudding. but believe me, it was something only I noticed because there were no leftovers!!

Amazing Mussels

Reviewed: Dec. 31, 2007
I made this recipe for one of the seven fishes on Christmas Eve. Came out very good! I made 15 pounds of Mussels and adjusted the recipe accordingly. I made the "broth" in the morning, then that night I brought it to a boil and threw in the mussels. Served on it's own, with bread for dunking. Wish I had a picture of my Dad and Uncles at the table with this huge bowl of Mussels. They were just eating away! Nobody gave up their seat for nieces or nephews!! Flavor and ease is part of a 5 star rating, but you also have to factor in how other people like it..and when there is NO leftovers that's an automatic 5!!

No Bake Peanut Butter Pie

Reviewed: Sep. 6, 2007
ok - so there's like 300 reviews for this - do you want to know why?? It's easy, tasty and something different. You don't have to be a peanut butter fanatic to like this recipe. It makes 2, so you'll take one to a function - it will get gobbled up, but that's ok - you know you have another one at home all for yourself!!!
