German Chicken

Reviewed: Jan. 20, 2012
This is a great weeknight meal, so easy to prepare! I'm not nuts about boneless, skinless chicken breasts but adding BBQ sauce and sauerkraut definately makes them less blah. I only did two breasts and used a 16 oz. package of drained kraut and it worked out great. Also, I did not measure the sauce; just added a thick layer of Sweet Baby Ray's. Mashed potatoes on the side is a must! I'll add this to my rotation as the ingredients are inexpensive and easy to keep on hand.

Mango Milk Shakes

Reviewed: Jan. 4, 2012
This was tasty. I used V8 V-Fusion peach-mango juice and Breyer's extra creamy vanilla ice cream. I bet this would be really good with any of the red flavor juice varieties as well.

Apple Harvest Pound Cake with Caramel Glaze

Reviewed: Dec. 6, 2011
This is a delicious cake, solid 4 stars, but 5 stars with changes. I made it twice. The first time I did like other reviewers and subbed 1 C brown sugar for the white, increased the cinnamon to 1 teaspoon and added applesauce for 1/3 of the oil. The second time, I didn't have enough brown sugar so I used the 2 cups white sugar and it was even better. A lot better and I preferred the color as well. This was our Thanksgiving dessert, but it was quite nice in the morning with coffee or tea. I will make this again, perfect for fall!

Chilled Noodles with Tahini Dressing

Reviewed: Oct. 27, 2011
This was eh. I doubled the sauce and added veggies but it was kind of boring. Or something. It was not inedible, but I wouldn't make it again.

Black Bean Hummus with Tahini

Reviewed: Oct. 27, 2011
I really didn't care for this at all. I love hummus and black beans, just not together, I guess.

Tart Lemon Triangles

Reviewed: Oct. 27, 2011
I only had a bite and it was YUM! But it was all eaten up so that's why I'm giving it 5 stars.

Strawberry Coffee Cake

Easy to prepare and delicious. I used frozen stawberries and it was still outstanding.

Garden Veggie Pizza Squares

Reviewed: Oct. 27, 2011
I made this with no changes for a potluck at work and it was enjoyed by all. One person told me how jealous she is that I'm such an excellent cook. Not much cooking involved in this one! Ha! Like others have said, don't make it too far ahead of time and press down on the toppings. Ranch & cream cheese, you can't go wrong.

Jay's Signature Pizza Crust

Reviewed: Oct. 27, 2011
Thanks Jay, great recipe! I asked a couple questions about this on The Buzz and with Buzzers advice, I was able to make 2 pizzas from this amount of dough. Also, I put it directly on a cold pizza stone and that went in the oven pretty close to 20 minutes. Forget about rolling out the dough. It was WAY too sticky. I put a little olive oil on the stone and on my clean hands and stretched it to cover. Great flavor, texture and crispness. No more frozen pizza for me!

Exquisite Pizza Sauce

Reviewed: Oct. 27, 2011
Great sauce with a fantastic depth of flavors! I didn't have marjoram so I increased the basil and oregano and left out the anchovy paste. This Sauce+Jay's Signature Pizza Crust+Cheese+Toppings=YUMMY! I will never buy jarred sauce again. Thanks Angie!

Best Big, Fat, Chewy Chocolate Chip Cookie

Reviewed: Oct. 27, 2011
This recipe couldn't be any easier for a new baker like myself and the cookies are out of this world! To me, they were as good as any chocolate chip cookie I have EVER had. The fact that I made them and can make them again whenever I want? BONUS! Since I'm new to baking, I wasn't sure how big the cookies would end up; I should have paid attention to the title! They ARE BIG! Big & delicious!

Chocolate Chocolate Chip Cookies III

Reviewed: Oct. 11, 2011
Yep, these are pretty awesome and very rich. The directions are clear and they turned out great with no changes. I agree with other reviewers about being generous with the powdered sugar. These would be really good with peanut butter chips in the dough and still adding the melted chocolate ones. I will make again.

Caramel-Apple Crisp

Reviewed: Sep. 26, 2011
I'm going to first start by saying I didn't follow the directions very well. I forgot to mix the cinnamon with the caramel so I just sprinkled it on top of the apples. Also, I dumped the oats in with the flour, brown sugar and butter instead of mixing it in after. But it still came out really tasty! I used Granny Smith apples like other. Thanks you to DisplacedTexan, another reviewer, for your caramel sauce recipe! I probably ate half an apple dipped in it. Luckily I still had enough for the crisp. This made the kitchen smell wonderful and you can't beat the fact that you only dirty one bowl!

Sweet Onion Casserole

Reviewed: Sep. 19, 2011
I thought this was really delicious with a couple additions. Another review said it needed some spice so I added 3 minced garlic cloves when the onion were almost done cooking. I also added a T. or so fresh parsley, salt (not 1 & 1/2 t.) and pepper to taste. I would probably make this again.

Easy Pesto

Reviewed: Sep. 7, 2011
This is the first time I ever made pesto and this was very good. I liked that it did not require those expensive pine nuts. Next time, more garlic! I used three little guys; should have used three big guys. Cloves that is, ha! I used this over thin spaghetti tossed with shrimp & peas. Yummy dinner!

Peppery Cheese Bread

Reviewed: Sep. 7, 2011
This bread was very good and very easy for an inexperienced yeast-using-bread-baker like myself. My only issue with the directions is that it says to split the dough. But for the pan size it says to use this recipe would not adequately fill 2 of those pans. I ended up putting all the dough in one pan (on advice from the Recipe Buzzers, TY!) and it worked out great. While I was mixing, I put a pot of water on to boil, turned it off and put my dough on a wire rack over the hot pot of water. It rose beautifully. I'm going to make this again, but for me, it needs more pepper and cheese to earn it's name. I might also add garlic or rosemary next time. Good recipe which will be great with some modifications. Thanks for sharing Sue!

Chickpea Macaroni Salad

Reviewed: Sep. 7, 2011
Excellent salad, but I would call it "Greek Macaroni Salad." I had a couple of changes - I added some fresh parsley and dried oregano. I also used only 1/4 olive oil and the salad was not in the least bit dry. I used kalamata olives because I prefer them to traditional black and think they go great with feta. This was well received and will be made at my house again for sure!

Orangemade

Reviewed: Sep. 7, 2011
Yum, yum, yum! I read another review and thought that I would decrease the sugar as well. What I did was halve the recipe and used 1/4 white sugar and 6 packets of the "pink stuff" to lower the calories. That is equivalent to 1/2 cup sugar. It was plenty sweet enough for me. I used store bought "premium" OJ and fresh squeezed lemon juice. This is a really delicious, refreshing drink and I will definately make it again!

Bake Sale Lemon Bars

Reviewed: Aug. 29, 2011
These were yummy, but a little sweeter and less tart than I expected. I made no changes in the ingredients, but I did bake this in a 10 x 6 pan after reading other reviewers' comments about the difficulty spreading the flour mixture into a 9 x 13 pan. The baking time was fine with the smaller pan. I would make these again, but would reduce the white sugar by 1/4 of a cup and increasing the lemon juice by a few tablesppons.

Ratatouille Bake

Reviewed: Aug. 29, 2011
This is a very good recipe. I didn't measure the zucchini or eggplant, just used 2 medium zucs and 1 medium eggplant. I also used fresh basil and parsley. Next time, I would use a larger can of diced tomatoes or ad some fresh because they cooked down quite a bit. I would definately mkae this again.
