Apple Cinnamon White Cake

Reviewed: Feb. 23, 2014
My husband and I loved the recipe. The only thing I changed was I increased the cinnamon to approx. l tbsp. We love cinnamon!!!! I was multi-tasking and forgot about the cake. About 45-50 minutes later I remembered the cake. I tasted great. I put the leftover cake in a plastic bag overnight and it was so moist and delicious. Forwarded the recipe to my girlfriend at once.

Baked Potato Soup I

Reviewed: Feb. 10, 2012
Good recipe for baked potato soup, but it is bland. I added a large Maggi chicken boullion cube that I disolved in about 2/3 cups of water, extra salt and pepper and grated some nutmeg into the soup. Next time I will add an additional chicken boullion cube. Very hearty soup on cold days.

Barbarella's German Pancakes

Reviewed: Feb. 5, 2012
I have not tried this recipe yet, but it is correct (except we do not put sugar in the batter). Milk, eggs and flour. German pancakes are like a crepe or a blintz, very thin. I was reading the reviews and most people complaint about the pancakes sticking to the pan, naturally there should be butter in the pan, I think Deborah forgot to mention this in the recipe. Pancakes can also be served with apple sauce. Some people spread jam on the pancakes and roll them up. Taste very good with fried apples etc. Leftover pancakes are cut in very thin strips and we make a "Flaedle Soup" in Schwaebia.

Authentic German Potato Salad

Reviewed: Jan. 10, 2012
I'm from Stuttgart, Germany and this is not how we make potato salad. We cook the whole potatoes and peel them while they are still hot. In Stuttgart we slice the potatoes very thin. We add some broth, vinegar and oil, salt, pepper and diced onions. Absolutely no sugar. You can add some sliced boiled eggs on top of the salad for decor. No heating up the potato salad. We serve it cold. I did not know that potato salad was served warm until I came to the USA

Gooey Butter Cake I

Reviewed: Jun. 22, 2010
This cake recipe is also known as "No Frosting Cake". I have made this cake for 20+ yrs. and I have never found anybody that did not like this cake. Please use the cake mix without the pudding in it, makes for a better cake. Baking time varies, I keep an eye on the cake after 40-45 minutes. When top turns a light tan and starts crackling cake it done. Cool completely and sprinkle with powdered sugar. Cut into brownie size pcs. My family requests this cake for their birthdays.

Coconut Cream Meringue Pie

Reviewed: Jun. 22, 2010
Betty thanks for posting this recipe. My husband says it is one of the best coconut cream meringue pies he ever had. Made it today for the first time exactly to recipe. After eating the first piece of pie my husband responded that one piece was just not enough ( half of the pie already gone). He is already looking forward to the next pie. Thanks again, you made my husband soooooo happy with your recipe.

French Beef Stew

Reviewed: Nov. 24, 2009
Very tasty. It did not make 8 servings. My husband and I are "good" eaters, it only made one meal (husband had second helping, which he should not have eaten). Used frozen home grown tomatoes instead of the 2 cans of italian style tom. I let the liquids cook down a little and it made a more hearty meal. Next time I will fix some sides with it, maybe we can get a second meal out of it.

Bill's Sausage Gravy

Reviewed: Nov. 8, 2009
I used Bob Evans Sage Sausage and it tasted sooo good. Also I left the fried sausage in the skillet and added the butter and flour. I serve it with fried Yukon Gold potatoes and Grands biscuits. My husband loves this dish. It is a fast meal. I serve it for breakfast and also for supper with eggs and sausage patties on the side. I always used the same ingredients, but I did not messure it out. Tastes also real good with Bob Evans Italian sausage.

Brownie Caramel Cheesecake

Reviewed: Apr. 30, 2009
I'm crazy about cheesecake, this one is so good and rich!!! I used a 10.5 oz brownie mix (was all I could find) and made it to package directions. I topped it with Smucker's hot caramel topping and added the cheesecake topping (used the 3 pkgs of cream cheese etc.) After baking a left the cheesecake in the oven as suggested. It turned out great. Thanks for posting this recipe!

Rempel Family Meatloaf

Reviewed: Mar. 29, 2009
Great recipe, full of flavor. I used parmesan flavored bread crumbs instead of the crushed crackers, used barb. sauce instead of steak sauce and removed more than half of the onions out of the onion soup mix. It still made a great meatloaf I will make many more times. We will have meatloaf sandwiches from the leftovers.

Super Soup

Reviewed: Dec. 15, 2008
Fixed this soup today, delicious!!!! My husband loved it. I only prepared half of the recipe. Did not have any celery, added some celery salt to the soup. Very rich and filling. Will make often this winter since I still have leftover turkey breast in the freezer. Will substitute chicken broth for the water.

Breakfast Pizza

Reviewed: Apr. 27, 2008
Tastes very good. I used Bob Evans Original sausage, will try next time their Sage sausage for more flavor. Also will try and add some red and yellow chopped peppers. I pre-baked the crust as was suggested and it was not soggy at all. Even my husband liked it. Next time I will half the recipe since it is far too much for the two of us. P.S. Love the Taste of Home recipes

Spaetzle I

Reviewed: Sep. 28, 2007
I'm orig. from Germany and come from the main "Spaetzle territory - Schwaben". This is the correct recipe, only you form a more stiff dough to make the Spaetzle rubbery, as my husband calls them. Most Schwaebians use all eggs instead of adding water, which will make them "rubbery". This depends on once taste if you want either the soft or the rubbery noodles. Either one is very good. Leftover Spaetzle can be fried in butter and scramble eggs into the noodles as they fry. Add some additional salt to season. I always add some cubed ham to it. Serve with fresh salads for a meal. Now that's authentic. P.S. Use a Spaetzle press or a Spaetzle Brett (you shave the spaetzle by hand in very thin strips and dip the cutter in the water every few cuts). Very time consuming if you are not used to it. You can get an authentic press, but they are not cheap.

Love this recipe. Moist and full of flavor. I add more ginger and cloves, also tastes good with chopped dates instead of the raisins. A hit with everybody.
