About this Cook
I'm 42 years old and divorced.. about to take the plunge again with my southern man in South Carolina. I will be moving there hopefully very soon. Kind of a scary thing moving that far from family but I'm sure I'll get over it. I can't quite cope with the "palmetto bugs" down there tho... jeez.. put a saddle on those things and ride em cowboy! I love to read Stephen King and I love movies of pretty much any variety. Music is one of my top three as well. Haven't had a lot of time or inclination to do much cooking "out of the ordinary" or anything but the quick and easy common things but I'm really interested in giving it the ol college try! UPDATE: I am now 43 and HAVE TAKEN THE PLUNGE! I am now married to my South Carolina man and residing down south. I love it but I miss my family back home.
My favorite things to cook
I enjoy making pastries, cookies, cakes... things of that nature. I haven't been big on the main dishes but I'm ready to give that a try too. I'm rather tired of the every day stuff.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Hot cross buns at easter time... cinnamon buns for christmas... yorkshire pudding with roast beef... and rice pudding... jelly roll... and scones. No one makes it like Mom did.
My cooking triumphs
I made a pretty rockin good black forrest cake once. Lot of work went into that.
My cooking tragedies
Steak on a bbq... ugh... i give up

Quinoa with Veggies
I liked this recipe but I did make a couple changes. First of all, rinse the quinoa well with cold water before cooking. I cooked the quinoa as directed on the package (2c liquid per 1c quinoa) which is a cup less than the recipe states. I used beef broth instead of water. I will be trying vegetable broth and chicken broth in the future as well. By using less liquid there is no need to drain it after cooking. I used a can of garden vegetable medley (corn, green beans, carrots) instead of half a cup of corn. I didn't have garlic so I used two green onions (green part included) instead. I put them in with the peppers after they had softened up some. I didn't put salt or pepper in it because the broth is salty enough and pepper can be put on according to each persons own taste preference. I'll make it again using different liquids and veggies. It's quite tasty!

Unbelievably Easy Slow Cooker Black Forest Cake
This was AWFUL!! There was no way of rescuing this.. it was simply a waste of cake mix and pie filling and pineapple. This didn't cook properly at all. It was more like chocolate soup. My husband loves chocolate (as do I) and it wasn't anywhere near edible. MAYBE if it was baked in the oven to begin with it MIGHT turn out somewhat edible but I did it in the slow cooker (following directions to a T) and when it didn't work I tried rescuing it by baking it in the oven. It was nothing but a waste of time.

Chicken Cordon Bleu
My ONLY thing wrong is that I can't seem very much cheese inside the roll. That's MY fault not the recipe. I followed the recipe to a T and it's SO good! Don't change a single thing. It actually made the favorite list for my hubby and that's no easy task.
