My favorite family cooking traditions
I grew up in a meat and potatoes household with basically the same weekly meals. I still go back to old standbys like meatball stew and pizza casserole when I'm in need of comfort food.

Turkey Shepherd's Pie
I always have a hard time replacing ground beef with ground turkey but this was really tasty! The only changes I made were adding a layer of frozen corn on top of the meat, but before the potatoes, and eliminating the fresh parsley. I never have parsley around. I forgot to stir in the flour, but it still tasted great. I put it under the broiler for about five minutes before serving, and the top came out nicely brown and a bit crispy. I always boil several cloves of peeled garlic with my potatoes when I plan to mash them. It gives them a much richer, fuller flavour. I served it with fresh-from-the-garden green beans in a garlic-butter-and-lemon sauce. Excellent meal!

Spicy Eggplant
This was better than anything I've ordered at a restaurant and healthier, too! I didn't have any oyster sauce so I just omitted it. I added thinly sliced mushrooms and served it over quinoa. It had just the right amount of heat for me. This is going to be my go-to eggplant recipe from now on!

Veggie Lasagna
I've got to say it wasn't one of my favourites. If I'm going to spend time layering, I'd use a different recipe.
