Best Big, Fat, Chewy Chocolate Chip Cookie

Reviewed: Jul. 13, 2012
These are the best chocolate chip cookies I've ever baked! They stay nice and soft and have a wonderful flavor. I didn't change a thing, but I did make the cookies smaller, baking 36 smaller cookies, instead of the huge (18) cookies. Thanks for such a terrific recipe!

Sausage Cheese Puffs

Reviewed: Sep. 22, 2011
I used Italian (hot) turkey sausage, but otherwise followed the directions. I found that the sausage cheese puffs were much too dry and didn't need to cook for more than 8 minutes at the most. The first batch that I made (following the instructions of cooking at 400 degrees for 12-15 minutes) almost burned. So, for the second batch, I turned the oven temperature down to 375 degrees and baked the puffs for approximately 8 minutes. I also added about 1/4 cup more water to the second batch so they wouldn't be so dry. The taste of this recipe is good, but I had to tweak the cooking instructions.

Holly's Hummus

Reviewed: Sep. 22, 2011
I really liked this hummus recipe, however, I did think that the garlic was overpowering...so much so, that I added an additional can of garbanzo beans, hoping that it would dilute the garlic flavor. For me (and I love garlic), it was still too garlicky tasting. However, everyone at my party loved it. Maybe my tastebuds are too sensitive to garlic, perhaps?

Crunchy Apple Bread

Reviewed: Oct. 6, 2010
I found the original recipe a little bit dry (sorry), so the next time I baked it, I made the following changes: I used 3 cups of apples, added 2 teaspoons of cinnamon, and added 1/4 cup more liquid than the recipe called for. I didn't have any orange juice, so I substituted apple cider. This came out fabulous...however, because of the added apples & liquid, I had to bake it about 10 minutes longer.

Slow Cooker Chicken Stroganoff

Reviewed: Sep. 1, 2010
This recipe was good, although the creamy mixture was a too rich for my taste. When I make this again, I will probably use 1/2 the amount of cream cheese. There was also something missing, but I can't figure out what.

Quinoa with Sweet Potato and Mushrooms

Reviewed: Mar. 8, 2010
I really liked this recipe, however, I cut the amount of cayenne pepper down to 1/8 teaspoon, and it was still a little too spicy for me (and I normally love spicy food). Next time, I will just use a tiny pinch of the cayenne. I didn't have fresh garlic in the house, so I used a little garlic powder instead, and it worked just as well.

Maria's Broccoli Rabe

Reviewed: Sep. 28, 2009
I'd never cooked broccoli rabe before...since I love all veggies, I thought I'd like it, but it was terribly bitter!

Veal Scallopini

Reviewed: Feb. 18, 2009
I cooked this for Valentine's Day dinner, since I wanted to make something different & special. I thought the veal turned out very good & tender cooked this way. It was tasty, but I felt it was missing something...still can't figure out what though. My husband (the picky eater) loved it!

Mexican Cream Cheese Rollups

Reviewed: Dec. 29, 2007
I tweaked the recipe a bit, adding some powdered Ranch dip/dressing mix, used chopped Kalamata olives, and also some chopped sundried tomatoes. Then, I added crabmeat, and also mixed in the salsa with the mixture, rather than serving it on the side. This was great! However, I found that the mixture was only enough to spread onto 4 (10 inch) tortillas, not 8 of them as the original recipe stated. Anyway, great idea!

Southwestern Mini Muffins

Reviewed: Oct. 23, 2007
I disagree with the other reviewers, I thought these muffins were very bland. I'm going to give them another try, this time I'll use 1/2 corn meal and 1/2 flour, add about 1/4 teaspoon ground chipote powder, and minced onion. I'll repost after I taste the doctored up version.

Great Pumpkin Cake

Reviewed: Oct. 11, 2007
I made this cake for a party I'm going to tonight. Although I'm thrilled with the way the cake turned out (how cute!), in my opinion, the frosting was not thick enough and spread too thin. I had to keep adding more confectioner's sugar (probably about a cup more) to get the right consistency & by then, the frosting was a little bit too sweet for my taste. This is the first time I've decorated a cake with frosting in many years, so it could just be me!

Melt-In-Your-Mouth Meat Loaf

Reviewed: Oct. 10, 2007
I used stuffing mix (dry) instead of bread crumbs, and it turned out good. My husband thought this meatloaf was great...however, I like more chopped up veggies in mine. Next time I'll try it adding finely minced carrotts, and a little finely diced bell pepper.

Terrific Turkey Meat Loaf

Reviewed: Oct. 10, 2007
I followed the recipe exactly, and I just didn't like the texture of the turkey loaf using the oat bran. Also, the cooking time recommended is too long, mine almost burnt on the bottom of the pan. Next time I think I'll use either whole oats or bread crumbs and will cut down the cooking time by about ten minutes.

World's Greatest Vegetable Broth

Reviewed: Oct. 10, 2007
This veggie broth turned out great! However, I'd recommend only roasting the vegetables in the oven for about 1/2 an hour. The veggies would have been burned if I would have cooked them for over an hour as the recipe listed. (My oven is calibrated correctly).
