About this Cook
I'm currently have a BA in Art and Graphic Design, and I'm currently finishing up a second BA in English Literature. I hope to head into Publication design since I love books. I love to read them as well as design them. Cooking is a great stress reliever from frustrating essays and projects.
My favorite things to cook
I like to try soups, different cooking methods of staples like chicken, pork, beef and so on. I like to try new cookies, cakes, and other deserts. New twists on old traditions, as well as old traditions that are new to me. I like to try a bit of everything from every style of food.
My favorite family cooking traditions
We have the fairly typical North Eastern holiday meal traditions: turkey with stuffing, mashed potatoes, pies and such for Thanksgiving; either a roaster or ham for Christmas, ham on Easter, and so on.
My cooking triumphs
In fall 2006, my Arturian Literature class had a special end of the semester feast where each member had to re-create an authentic medieval dish. I chose to make a spiced almond pastry type dessert with a red wine and honey glaze. It was a very difficult recidpe since it only listed what you needed, a couple vague cooking directions, and most just a breif description of what the end product should more or less be. Safe to say, it was a harrowing experience, but it was successful and my classmates loved it!
My cooking tragedies
Sometimes I just like to throw things together and see what comes out. It's been years since any major culinary flops, but the worst tragedy is when I create something that works, but forget to write it down and then forget how I made it in the first place.

Milky Tea
This is a wonderfully simple and sweet recipe. Quick, no fuss, and you can evenbe creative with it. I ran out of vanilla extract so I used 1/3 Half&Half with 2/3 milk, a little less honey (approx 1 1/2 tablespoons), and about a tablespoon of real Vermont Maple syrup. (I'm a Vermonter and grew up with it, so it's a kind of comfort treat.) The half&half gave it that creamy taste, and helped balance the sweet flavors of honey and syrup.
