Radish Top Soup

Reviewed: Sep. 30, 2014
I have an aversion to leafy greens and I can't believe how delicious this soup turned out! Everyone gave it a thumbs up, even the picky 3-year-old. I added sliced spicy chicken sausage to the grown ups bowls to make it a meal. Also used milk instead of cream because that's what I had on hand, but it was delicious before I added the milk too. I grew more radishes this fall just for this soup. This one's a keeper!

Brown Butter Perch

Very easy and very tasty! Switched cayenne for garlic for the little one. We've done perch and cod, both delicious. This one's a keeper!

Jen's Chorizo Pasta

Reviewed: Oct. 24, 2011
We absolutely LOVE this! We have a family of 8 and you can bulk this up just by adding extra noodles and sauce and there is still plenty of meat and veggies! I use bulk chorizo to spread it further than chunked links. And this recipe is so forgiving! I used an extra 1/2 box penne tonight so I added an extra 1/2 of the sauce recipe. Didn't have enough butter this time, but 1 cup was plenty. You can cook the sauce a little, a lot, have the veggies crunchy, soft, more butter, less butter, etc. and it still turns out wonderfully! Like I said, forgiving recipe! One of our faves and definitely worth a try if you're looking for something new.

Cinnamon Syrup

Reviewed: Sep. 27, 2011
It's a keeper! I just used half the flour, but probably could've used all. You just have to watch it closely. I also added a tablespoon butter when I took it off the heat as other reviewers suggested because I do the same for my peanut butter fudge and it makes all the difference in the smoothness of the texture. Don't worry if it looks like the butter is globbing up, it melts out and stirs in eventually. We served these over pumpkin pankcakes and everyone LOVED it!

Pumpkin Pancakes

Reviewed: Sep. 27, 2011
Love, love love this recipe! We serve it with the cinnamon syrup recipe from this site. Good, hearty, flavorful recipe. The only thing I'd add to the instructions is to spread it out with the back of your spoon as soon as you put the batter on the griddle, otherwise it's a bit thick of a pancake for me, but still delicious!

Creamy Pesto Chicken and Bow Ties

Reviewed: Sep. 26, 2011
Doubled the recipe and made it for a grown family of 6. Forgot to buy an extra can of cream of chicken so I used a can of cream of mushroom and it was delicious! It was more than enough and everyone ate it for breakfast and lunch the next day. That's saying a lot because this isn't really a leftover kind of family. Definitely a keeper!

Amish White Bread

Reviewed: Aug. 15, 2011
My sister-in-law pointed me to this recipe when I asked how she made such wonderful bread. It's easy, simple, and has always turned out for me. I make it a couple times a month at least. It's very similar to the sweetness of a hawaiian roll. I tried it with less sugar, and while it turned out, I preferred the sweet. Sometimes I make loaves, sometimes rolls. This is my go-to dinner bread!

Southern-Style Chocolate Gravy

Reviewed: Aug. 15, 2011
LOVE this! My best friend's mom would make this for us when we were growing up. I had been looking for a recipe similar to hers for awhile and this is it, right on the money! Smooth and creamy without being watery or runny. Great chocolate flavor and the leftovers store well in the fridge to be warmed up the next morning. Also yummy on waffles :)

Cake in a Jar

Reviewed: Aug. 15, 2011
I used this recipe to send to my husband for his birthday all 3 times he was deployed. Great for sending a "party in a box." I always sent frosting along with a bag of balloons to blow up and whatever silly games/toys/etc. I could find. This would also be a fun recipe for a themed party or to take on a picnic!

I'm sure it's user error, but this bread always ends up a little tough for me. It has awesome, awesome flavor though!

Cinnamon Nut Coffee Cake

Reviewed: Oct. 11, 2008
A LESSON FROM GRANDMA: DON’T cut cake (or pie) until it’s completely cooled!!! It’s something about releasing moisture from the cut part of the cake and it does something to how it sets up. I don’t know the specifics, but I do know that I listened to grandma and despite looking quite a bit overdone, this coffee cake came out moist. This was delicious! The only changes I made were to triple the vanilla (imitation vanilla, to make it taste more like yellow cake) and I made one and a half times the topping recipe because I didn’t have any nuts (and I’m crazy about anything cinnamon-sugar). Remember to wait to cut, it makes a difference (and that might be why other ones came out dry). YUM YUM! Thanks for sharing.
