So tomorrow is my birthday! Not only that, but its my golden birthday (26 on the 26th!). And not only that, as of early this month I had my "one year in Japan"-versary. It seems like only yesterday I was a bright eyed 25 year old stepping off the plane
into the Tokyo heat and looking for my first taste of okonomiyaki and sake. Oh how time flies...
Seeing as this is probably be my last birthday for quite a while (I plan on turning 26 for the next several years until I can no longer get away it) and the start of another full year overseas, I figured I might as well do something special. So I'm treating
my friends to a nice Mediterranean dinner. That's right, not a Japanese food item in sight! The menu...
Greek Chicken with Spinach and Feta (If I can find feta that is...may be substituted for whatever cheese I can find)
Pasta Pomodoro with Vegetables
Hummus with garlic and roasted red peppers (with veggie sticks and crackers to dip in it....no pitas to be had for miles and miles)
Garlic Olive oil dip w/French Bread
I plan on heading to the store today and hopefully I can find everything I need. If there is anything I have learned in Japan so far, it is to SHOP AHEAD. You never know what the store will and won't have, especially if its a foreign food. It makes planning
meals a little challenging. Reminds of the time when hamburger buns started being sold in all three of my local stores. Fast forward about 3 weeks, I wanted a hamburger. So I prepare everything I need, cook myself a patty, head to store to get the buns and...no
buns. I have not seen them since. But nothing I need is too exotic so I shouldn't have a problem. Well except for the feta...I have a feeling I won't be using feta.
Anyway, here's to another year of life and another year of life in Japan! Mangiamo, bon appetit, ittadakimasu, and...uuh....let's eat!
