Apple Crumble Pie

Reviewed: Nov. 23, 2013
I've made this pie for the last few Thanksgivings, and my family loves it! I, too, used 1/2 brown sugar and mixed the apples with the flour/sugar mixture before putting in the pie plate. I also sprinkle cinnamon over the layers. Yum!

Delicious Ham and Potato Soup

Reviewed: May 8, 2011
I was surprised at how easy AND good this was! I had some leftover ham from Easter to use up, and didn't want something really heavy. This chowder had a nice consistency that wasn't too thick. I did feel it was a bit on the salty side (possibly because of the boullion and ham combined) so probably wouldn't add the additional salt called for when I make it again. And I'll DEFINITELY make it again. Thank you for sharing!

My family LOVES this! I make it just as the recipe states. I think the celery seed makes it wonderful!

Slow Cooker Scalloped Potatoes with Ham

Reviewed: Jan. 4, 2011
This was very good! I've made it twice now, both times with rave reviews. I followed the advice of another reviewer and cooked it in the oven at 325 for 1-1/2 hours. I used milk instead of water. I cooked it covered with foil until the last 15 minutes, sprinkled the top with shredded cheese, then seasoned bread crumbs over the cheese. It created a flavorful crunchy, cheesey topping. Yummy! I have also microwaved the sliced potatoes to shorten the cooking time. I am looking forward to the day when I have time to try it in the crockpot.

Slow Cooker Stuffing

Reviewed: Jan. 4, 2011
I got rave reviews on this! I added about 1-1/2 cans chicken broth, and never had to add any more liquid. I started it on high, turned it down to low after 45 mins., then "warm" after about 3 hours. The mushrooms add a nice texture.

Traditional White Bread

Reviewed: Jul. 3, 2010
It has probably been 20 years since I made bread by hand (meaning without my KitchenAid or a breadmaker). I wanted some good bread for grilled cheese sandwiches, so I tried this recipe. It was SO good and SO easy! I didn't have lard, but I did have 2 TBS of shortening and 1 TBS butter, so I used that instead. I'll definitely be making it again, especially considering how easy it was.

Cinnamon Cream Syrup

Reviewed: Jan. 10, 2010
Made this on a day when my daughter had a birthday sleepover and I found myself to be out of maple syrup for french toast. Tasted like a cinnamon roll! Now my teenage son asks when I'm going to make it again.

Buttermilk Coleslaw

Reviewed: Jan. 10, 2010
So good! I like my coleslaw a little creamier and less sweet. This was perfect! I made it to serve on pulled pork sandwiches (Lazy Man's Barbecued Pork Sandwiches from this site) and it was incredible! The whole family loved it!

Lazy Man's Barbecue Pork Sandwiches

So incredibly good! After cooking, I found I wanted a bit more sauce, so added some Sweet Baby Ray's sauce to moisten it up a bit more. I served it with Buttermilk Coleslaw from this site. Incredible!!!

After-Thanksgiving Turkey Soup

Reviewed: Jan. 10, 2010
This was very creamy and very good, although a bit heavy for after Thanksgiving. I found the leftovers to be even more flavorful for lunch in the days after I made it.

Roasted New Red Potatoes

Reviewed: Jan. 10, 2010
My family LOVES these potatoes! I've been making them for about 1.5 years now, and put them on a jelly roll pan and grill them on an upper rack. One of my son's friends was over for dinner once when I made them, and my son said he was bragging to all their friends about my famous roasted potatoes. Now that's success!

Ham 'N' Cheese Pie

Reviewed: Jan. 5, 2010
My family really liked this! I forgot to grease the pans, and didn't have onions, but it still turned out really good, with the family asking me to make it again. Thanks! It's no small feat trying to find something everyone enjoys!

Zippy Potato Soup

Reviewed: Nov. 10, 2009
This was very good and quick! I made it exactly as written and my whole family ate it. I really liked the idea of grating a carrot in with the potatoes because my kids don't like carrots on their own. Everyone said they would eat it again. Thanks!

Chicken and Peas Au Gratin Casserole

Reviewed: Sep. 28, 2009
I decided to try this recipe because I happened to have cooked chicken, 3 cups of leftover white sauce (same recipe, but flavored with 2 chicken bouillon cubes), and a day-old loaf of french bread on hand, all which needed to be used up. I was out of cheddar cheese, though, and used shredded parmesan instead. I ended up using about 6 cups of bread with about 5 tablespoons of butter and 1/2 cup parmesan cheese (I wanted more bread on top). It smelled wonderful baking, and tasted just as good. I think the toasty topping really added a lot--I would definitely recommend french bread. My husband and kids thought it was good, but the kids don't like peas, so I'm not going to hold that against the recipe. Very palatable!

Marinade for Chicken

Reviewed: Jul. 24, 2008
This was pretty good. I ran out of propane before I could grill it, so I ended up pan-searing it. It probably would have been better grilled. The marinade gave the chicken more of a beef flavor, so if you're missing beef, then this will probably work for you.

Chicken Cordon Bleu I

Reviewed: Jul. 10, 2008
So good! My whole family loved it. It was quick and extremely easy. I had HUGE chicken breasts, so I just sliced them half (like cutlets). No pounding, easy rolling. After rolling, I dipped them in beaten egg before coating in breadcrumbs. Then I put a small pat of butter on top of each roll. Like another reviewer, I also made the honey/mustard sauce from the Aussie Chicken recipe from this site. (Note: If you make that sauce, leave out the corn syrup. It's NOT necessary!). It was so good, I'm making it for the second time in a week!

Monkey Bread

Reviewed: Apr. 27, 2008
This was excellent. I gave it 4 stars because I, too, ran out of sugar/pudding mixture. I used the cook n'serve pudding and made the recipe exactly as stated. I ran out with 6 biscuits left to cut and add. Next time, maybe I'll use another box of pudding (or find a large box). I ended up throwing together some more sugar/cinnamon mixture (without pudding) in the end, but that part of the bread was dry and not gooey. I suppose you could stir it up a little before baking to distribute the pudding mixture more. The kids and their friends loved it, though, so I'll try it again. I found this to be better than the monkey bread you pour the melted butter/sugar over.

Dirt Cake II

Reviewed: Apr. 27, 2008
I made this for my daughter's birthday. I used two large boxes of pudding and about 4 cups of milk, but kept the other measurements the same. It was way too sweet, and I'm a sweets kind of person! Some of the kids didn't finish theirs because it was so sweet. Next time, I would leave out the butter, cream cheese, and DEFINITELY the powdered sugar. Oh, I used Famous Amos cookies and they were just as good as Oreos.

Aunt Edith's Baked Pancake

Reviewed: Mar. 11, 2008
Very, very good! These taste just like the German pancakes at my favorite restaurant. My kids went nuts over them. Thanks for a great recipe! I put butter and lemon juice on them, and then sprinkle them liberally with powdered sugar. SO good!
