PARTY'S OVER
About this Cook
hello, i am stephanie. i go to school and live in chicago. my mom taught me how to cook and i hope to be able to cook as great as her one day. she makes simple food the right way, completely from scratch. i have celiac disease. i take all of the recipes i used to like that i can't eat anymore and make substitutions with gluten free products. update 2012: Also trying to cut out animal products.
My favorite things to cook
2007: i love eating mexican food. i also like making sweets because i have a major sweet tooth. update 2012: I still love mexican food and sweet, but I am currently doing a local produce share program - so my cooking is becoming more experimental, more simple, and most of all healthier!
My favorite family cooking traditions
when i am at home i am always helping my mom in the kitchen. taking a lesson.
My cooking triumphs
This is always changing... anytime I cooking and people are enjoying it is a triumph for me!
My cooking tragedies
vegitarian chili. i was cooking for veg. friends and i added entirely too much tomato paste in the pot. they ate it and said it was great. apparently vegetarians aren't picky. tzatakiki. i didn't know i was supposed to drain the yogurt. so it turned into a soup like dill fest.

Garden Fresh Tomato Soup
Wow! This soup is great. I used tomatoes and onion from the garden in a very very rough chop, a few pinches of ground cloves, and vegetable broth. I also made my roux vegan and gluten free by using gf flour and olive oil. I also do not have a mill so I used an immersion blender and a strainer - worked perfectly. Restaurant quality soup for sure. My only addition was a generous sprinkle of red pepper flakes before blending, but I'd leave that out next time even though I love spicy food - this soup doesn't need it! :)

Asian Cucumber Salad
i've made this many times and its the best! tastes very authentic to what i've had in japanese restaurants. if i don't have ginger or garlic or sugar i use the powdered kind and honey and its still good. very vital that you use seasoned rice wine vinegar and that you let the cucs drain and rinse! once i forgot to rinse and the recipe was still good but tasted more like pickles/garnish than a salad.
