Sweet and Sour Pork III

Reviewed: Jul. 30, 2013
This is the basic sweet and sour flavour I've been looking for. It will be my go-to recipe for sweet and sour sauce for sure.

Slow Cooker Baked Beans

Reviewed: May 20, 2013
Great recipe, great flavour! A little free advice, though: make sure you boil the beans in a large pot as they will expand and need quite a bit of water.

Thai Quivering Tenderloins

Reviewed: Apr. 3, 2013
Delicious and easy. I only used a 1/4 tsp of chili peppers and still found it had a good kick. 1 tsp would have melted my wimpy lips right off!

Sue's Hot Fudge Sauce

Reviewed: Oct. 28, 2012
Killer. I used half and half instead of evaporated milk and it worked amazingly. It's a very sweet recipe... but it IS hot fudge after all.

Garlic Chicken Stir Fry

Reviewed: Sep. 29, 2012
Very good basic recipe but perhaps a bit sweet for me. Next time I will reduce the sugar by about half. Also, important to note that if you are using frozen vegetables (I had a stir fry package that I threw in), you should cut the amount of liquid added by a little. I used the full amount and the frozen vegetables made this a bit watery. Overall a great recipe.

Sausage & White Bean Soup

Reviewed: Mar. 5, 2012
Good, fast and easy. I would make sure not to use sausage with fennel in it next time (since i don't like fennel and didn't notice it was in the sausage!) and I think I would rinse the beans next time since I found it a bit salty. But very good.

Delicious Ham and Potato Soup

Reviewed: Jan. 28, 2012
Love, love, love this recipe. I like it with about 1 cup more potatoes and lots of ham. Also used 2 cups of prepared broth instead of water and bouillon (and water for the rest of the liquid). So good.

BREAKSTONE'S Triple Chocolate Bliss Cake

Reviewed: Aug. 13, 2011
Definitely yummy, definitely easy. I'd make this again for sure. The chocolate sauce is really, really good but definitely let it harden a bit before pouring it over the cake.

Toffee Chocolate Chip Cookies

Reviewed: Apr. 17, 2011
Potentially the best cookie recipe out there. A tiny bit too sweet, even for me, which is why I only gave the 4 stars, but the texture is perfect - chewy with just slightly crispy edges. Definitely take them out when they are still a little soft in the center but gold on the edges. Amazing.

Very good. I will double the topping next time, though, and it's good with veggies thrown in.

Hong Kong Sweet and Sour Pork

Reviewed: Feb. 6, 2010
Perfect recipe! I made this without pineapple because I can't eat it, and I was totally dubious about that, but it turned out perfectly. I also used corn starch, and I didn't have eggs so I just threw the marinated pork in corn starch, and it worked perfectly. It was crispy and so delicious. I used celery, white onions and canned mushrooms because that was all the veggies I had on hand, and yes, that IS enough marinade, which I doubted at first. Will for sure make this again, it's nice to have another recipe for pork that won't dry it out.

I accidentally bought only an 8 oz container of sour cream, but this recipe was amazing and was devoured very quickly. It made so much I was sure there would be leftovers, but there weren't!

Breakfast Cake

Reviewed: Aug. 30, 2009
If you make this recipe expecting a cake, you will be disappointed. It's really more like a bread sort of thing. If you have that in mind, this recipe isn't bad. Following the reviews of others, I blended an egg into the creamed mixture (in which I used margerine because I didn't have shortening). This did make it rise a bit, but it's a very dense kind of cake. I put a dash of lemon juice into the milk to thicken it a bit with traditional coffee cake (which uses sour cream) in mind. I baked it at 350 for only about 20 minutes. It's not too bad, in the end, but again, not like traditional coffee cake.
