About this Cook
I'm from Oregon and raised on lots of meat, potatos & fresh veggies in the summer. My parents taught me how to cook at a young age, we all worked together to prepare our meals. The older I got, the more I ventured out to different foods and styles of cooking. Now I can't get enough of cooking! My favorite food is spicy Mexican food and there are always jalapenos in my house.
My favorite things to cook
I like trying new things. Allrecipes has been my addiction for a long time now but I finally joined 9/07. Appetizers are my most favorite to try because I can make multiple recipes for the same gathering! I love to please people via the tummy.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Thanksgiving sticks out in my mind when thinking back on our family traditions, the stuffing particularly. The onion and celery browning in the skillet is one of those "bring me back" kind of smells. I always liked it when my parents would let my sister and I mix it up with our hands and stuff it into the turkey.
My cooking triumphs
On my boyfriend's birthday I had invited family over for carrot cake and appetizers. I used Mary Anne's Carrot Cake (without raisins) from this site and it was a hit. I also made Mexican themed appetizers, some that I created myself and some I got from this site. I got rave reviews on absolutely everything!
My cooking tragedies
I remembered the night before that I was to make my deviled eggs for our office Christmas party. That night I cooked the eggs and tried them the way my sister in law said by bringing to a boil and letting them sit. I left them in the fridge overnight and planned to make them in the morning. They ended up not cooking completely so some yolks were more yellow but I tried to make it anyway. I then realized I only had fat free mayo in the house and was getting nervous about how these would turn out. I tried to make them anyway and they were horrible! I tried to put spices in to make it better but it just made it worse. I ended up throwing it all out and buying store bought baguettes and spinach dip on my way to work.

Mary Anne's Carrot Cake
I made this for a birthday party a while back and everyone was in love. There wasn't a piece left. I didn't use as much oil and omitted the raisins because some people didn't like them. Made a cream cheese frosting (that ended up like a glaze-I don't know what I did-this is why I rarely bake) but it went perfect with this. I will never enjoy another carrot cake. **Not fluffy like most cakes!** Hands down, the best dessert ever!

Julia's Easy Slow Cooker Chicken
I tried this lazily because I wanted dinner done by the time we got home from work. At lunch I went home to put it together. I used chicken legs seasoned with garlic & herb mrs dash and pepper, added chopped garlic cloves and didn't use potatos. Mixed the onion soup with crm of mushroom before adding the milk and then a can of mushrooms and some more spices. It came out pretty good, I will definatley stick to the recipe next time and use boneless chicken breasts (or thighs) as it would have a better flavor I think. It made a really good gravy thickened with corn starch. (I didn't add starch to the crock pot.) Served with instant potatos and green beans. Great quick and easy meal! After getting home, dinner was on the table in 10 minutes! Leftover chicken and gravy will be made into a casserole with stove top and mashed potatos for another quick and easy weeknight meal. I love it when good meals can be easily made and leftovers used up to make the second night easy as well. Thanks for this this one!

Pork and Green Chile Casserole
We really liked this! I would use more cumin and chili powder next time though. And the kids wanted more cheese. Adults added cilantro and jalapeno which really topped it off. Kids added sour cream. We ate this with corn tortillas. I let this sit while I was preparing the rest of the meal (this really is a quick yummy dish!) and the longer it sat before baking in the oven, the more the flavors blended together. This was good eaten with chips as a dip the next day.
