Lemon Poppy Seed Bundt Cake

Reviewed: Sep. 1, 2008
9/1/08: My husband and kids have raved over this cake since I first made it. I have also made it for friends and family and they all love it as well. The only changes that I made were to omit the poppy seeds (could not find any) and I added 1/4 cup lemon juice to the batter. I used the glaze recommended on the reviews and its soooo good. This is a keeper in our family. To make the glaze I used 1 1/2 cups powdered sugar and 1/4 cup-1/2 cup lemon juice. UPDATE: 12/15/08: I have made this recipe so many times. It is a definite favorite in our house and I have been asked for the recipe as well. I have since changed how I make this to make it a little less moist. I think after making this several times 2 TBS of Lemon Juice to the batter is plenty and I use 1/4 cup Oil with no problems. I also use Lemon Pudding Mix instead of Vanilla. I have made the glaze using less and its still really good. 1/2 cup Powdered sugar 1/4 cup lemon juice works well together poured over the cake. I did also incorporate the Poppy Seeds this time & love that in there. Thank you so very much again!

Beef Noodle Casserole

Reviewed: Jan. 3, 2008
I am enjoying the dish right now. I had made it for dinner (early) and decided that I'd like to taste it for lunch and it's a very flavorful dish. Leaps and Bounds better than any box hamburger helper. I did have to do a few things different. First I didn't have egg noodles but used elbow noodles in it's place. I didn't have creamed corn so I used regular canned corn and drained it and added a can of cheddar cheese soup. I also added a little extra salt and also added garlic powder. I omitted the pimentos since I didn't have them on hand. I still would imagine this recipe to be just as good if I had made it according to directions. Thanks for the recipe it has just the right amount of heat for me and I really enjoyed this dish and I'm sure my 4 kids and husband will as well.

Rustic Autumn Fruit Tart

Reviewed: Dec. 2, 2008
My family loved this but we made it into a pie instead. I used double the pastry recipe and double the tart recipe and added to a pie dish and baked as I would a pie until done. It was a little more tart than I care for but very good. I would probably increase sugar to reduce tartness (I used 6 Granny Smith apples to make the pie) or use different type of apples. I will definitely make again as it was very good and theres not a bite left after the 2nd day :) Thank you so much. The pastry is very easy to make in the food processor.

Italian Bread II

Reviewed: Jan. 22, 2008
Great bread recipe. It was a little sticky once I removed it from the bread machine so I just left it all in one large loaf and it baked just perfectly. I did add 1/2 tsp-1 tsp of each garlic powder, italian seasoning, onion & herb seasoning by Mrs.Dash. It was heavenly and had the perfect amount of flavor. It is without a doubt a 5 star recipe I did leave out the seeds as well. We had this with Lasagna.

Soft Chocolate Mint Cookies

Reviewed: Aug. 4, 2008
I am rating this a 5 even though I altered the recipe some (to accomodate for what I had on hand). It was a wonderfully soft and delicious cookie even the next day :) Thank you so very much for sharing this recipe. Now a new favorite of mine. It inspired a different variation from myself. I didn't have unsweetened chocolate so I used about 1/3 but probably should have went to a 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder (just to give it more color: it was more the color of a choc chip cookie base) and I omitted the mint extract and used Andes Baking Mints instead. This cookie still was excellent and perfect with Andes. I can hardly wait to try it with the chocolate in it :) TYSVM I think this would be great without the chocolate and mint and instead use with receses pieces baking pieces or something similar also.

Hard Rock Candy

Reviewed: Dec. 18, 2008
Worked perfectly! Thanks for the great recipe. The last recipe I had tried used 4 cups of sugar and it was too sweet! I made cinnamon since I wasted my orange on the last failed recipe. I cant wait to try other flavors now. This was my second time making this type of candy but this was my first success. I bought a candy thermometer and it helped keep the guessing work and mistakes away :) My kids love it as well but asked if I could not make it spicy next time LOL so for those that want a lil spice but not hot maybe go to 1 1/2 tsp cinnamon. My husband and I think this is just right though. I will try the 1 1/2 tsp for the kids next time. I did not use confectioners sugar to dust with. I also would definitely follow the recipe exactly and take the advice of others who said DO NOT STIR DURING BOILING. Thanks to those that mentioned it.

Bulk Venison Breakfast Sausage

Reviewed: Oct. 7, 2010
Wonderful! The perfect amount of spicy and yummy! I absolutely hate venison but when it comes to venison sausage and jerky I am happy as long as it is seasoned well. This stuff is wonderful and a keeper! If you hate the taste of venison give this recipe a try. Thanks for sharing. We added 1 tsp of Caraway Seed to our sausage as well (hubby loves that stuff).

Pumpkin Spiced and Iced Cookies

Reviewed: Oct. 23, 2008
Really different and very good. I dont like pumpkin pie but like pumpkin bread so I was hoping these would be something I could enjoy :) I was right. These are a nice change to cookies. I think the icing makes the cookie have just enough of what it needs to make it perfect for me. Thank you for sharing. I am a major cookie lover so this is going into my cookie recipe folder :)

Chicken Crunch

Reviewed: Jan. 16, 2008
This was a great quick meal. My family enjoyed it. I had to substitute the cream of chicken for cream of mushroom as that was all that I had on hand. I would make this again when I am in a pinch for a quick meal.

Detroit Hot Honey Wings

Reviewed: Jan. 2, 2012
Living in Michigan we had to try these. I made them with boneless/skinless chicken thighs and they were amazing. I just seasoned and seared them in a pan and then put them in a baking dish and poured the entire mixture of ingredients over the thighs and baked them for about 30 minutes. These were wonderful! The whole family loved them and we couldn't stop eating more. Thanks for a great recipe! This is a keeper for sure!

Candy Bar Fudge

Reviewed: Oct. 2, 2011
Very good and easy fudge. I am not much of a semi-sweet fan but I followed this recipe exactly. Next time I will go all milk chocolate chips. It is definitely rich and also reminds me of a snickers bar. I think the other thing that I will do next time is add a little less nuts. They're good but a little too many in there. All in All this is a great recipe and we will make it again with the few adjustments for our tastes. I think this would also be great with almonds, pecans, cashews or walnuts or a combo:)

Quick and Easy Pizza Crust

Reviewed: Jan. 10, 2008
Oh Yum! What a delicious crust this was! My kids even said it was better than the pizza ordered out :) Thank you very much! I'm without a doubt keeping this one and btw...I froze 8 individual size pizza crusts (using double the recipe) w/wax paper in between each and as mentioned in other reviews this works wonderfully :) 1/2 tsp italian seasoning 1/4 tsp onion powder 1/2 tsp garlic powder 1/4 tsp cayenne pepper (The best and easiest way to add herbs is to mix them into the olive oil before you add it to the batter - that will ensure even distribution throughout the entire dough.) Next time I'm going to add the olive oil and garlic pwdr and or cayenne to the edges of the crust and sprinkle the pan with cornmeal (jiffy) to give it that perfect crisp bottom. I forgot this time but normally do that. However I will say this crust recipe is awesome and cooking it as it is I'm sure would still be just as great the seasonings just add another wonderful flavor dimension to the already great recipe :) Update: I make this pizza crust regularly in my house and it always is a hit. My family loves it and it is a permanent staple in our house :) TY again for such a wonderful recipe.

Portuguese Sweet Bread I

Reviewed: Dec. 23, 2007
Wonderful recipe! Perfect amount of sweetness as stated before. I am so happy to have this recipe thank you for sharing. It's simple and easy to follow even without a breadmaker. I used my kitchen aid dough hook and mixed all ingredients and allowed to rise for 1 hr and then punched down and shaped into rolls and let rise for another 15 minutes. They were wonderful. My family all enjoyed them and they were gone quick. Thanks to previous reviewers as well for tips on using the kitchen aid, making rolls and using all purpose flour(as a substitute). I can't wait to do more with the recipe. Thanks so much for sharing. Update: 12/15/08 I made these again last night and have made them numerous times. We love these rolls. I have made the dough in the bread machine and in the mixer with dough hook and both work great. The mixer is quick and easy. Just Warm the Milk add the yeast and sugar and allow to proof until foamy (10 mins or so) and then throw in the rest of the ingredients and mix and form into rolls or bread loaf. Allow to rise for about 30 mins-1hr and then Bake at 350 F for about 20 minutes or until lightly browned. I usually butter the tops also. My husband says these would be great with Jelly the next morning. This recipe makes 12 rolls.

Pasta e Olio

Reviewed: Dec. 23, 2007
This recipe was really simple and tasty. I didn't have the parsley and I'm sure I was missing some real flavor but even without it I'd recommend it. I used a different shaped pasta and added about 1/2 cup of Parmesean Cheese to it. Very tasty. I may even add more cayenne next time. Thanks for the recipe :)

Strawberry Cake II

Reviewed: Feb. 14, 2012
We enjoyed the taste of strawberry but we felt it was an ugly color :) I am not sure if it was my fault or not but it was not a bright pink. It seemed a bit dull kinda like dirty strawberry color. I think next time I will add food coloring to it and also I added 1 tsp of strawberry extract to my batter before I baked the cake. We will definitely make it again with these few alterations.

Pizza Pasta

Great recipe that can be tweaked to everyone's favorites and it seems to be a real crowd pleaser. I made this recipe in bulk for my sons orchestra potluck and it was completely gone before we left for home. Thanks for sharing.

Chicken and Biscuit Casserole

Reviewed: Apr. 21, 2009
Yum! Hit the spot! I wanted something different and I saw a recipe for something similar to this but used canned soup, etc and I wanted something not using soups. This was it! Thank you! I enjoyed my dinner tonight and the only thing that I changed was the veggies. I used onion, celery and broccoli pieces instead of carrots and peas. I am positive that carrots and peas would be great as well. I was just craving a broccoli dish. I used bisquick and buttermilk for my biscuits and I replaced basil in this recipe with Mrs.Dash Tomato,Basil,Garlic Seasoning. I also cooked the biscuits separately from the mixture and enjoyed it this way.

Slow Cooker Beef Stroganoff I

Reviewed: Dec. 24, 2008
I took suggestions of others and improvised in my own ways as well. Wow! What a flavorful dish. I thought that this was packed full of flavor and was delicious. MY ALTERATIONS: #1 I doubled the recipe keeping cream cheese and worch.sauce measurments the same. #2 I also added Salt,Pepper,Garlic and since I only had one can of golden mushroom soup (and I was doubling) I used Cream of Chicken for my second can. You would never know. #3 Added 2 Heaping Tbsp Sour Cream Add A Bullion Cube Add 1/2 Packet of Onion Soup Mix #4 I also used chicken instead of Beef. I cooked my cubed chicken in a pan with 2 Tbsp Oil and seasoned it with garlic pwdr, onion pwdr, salt, pepper, cayenne and steak seasoning. The meat was a wonderful compliment to the sauce and egg noodles. I definitely will be remaking this dish. Thanks so much for the recipe and thanks to those that gave other flavor suggestions.

Shrimp Linguine

Reviewed: Sep. 25, 2008
Great recipe! I had to alter a few ingredients and I added some but loved this recipe base. I didnt have whipping cream so I used 1% milk thickened with a few tablespoons of cornstarch. I also added 1/3 cup of white wine (flavored with mango and pineapple flavors) and diced up an onion to throw in with a whole stick of butter instead of 6 tbsp. I included basil in my seasoning choices as well.
