Slow Cooker Italian Beef for Sandwiches

Reviewed: Mar. 28, 2006
Unfortunately, just because something is liked by most people, does not mean that it is to everyone's taste. We didn't especially like this; we both thought it was "only okay". Although it smelled appetizing, it was pretty bland. I added a lot of extra seasonings (except salt!) after tasting it at the shredding point, to give it some flavour, then I let it continue to cook in the juice. Even the further addition of cheese and sauted onions & peppers to the sandwich itself did not redeem the beef.

Raw Apple Pound Cake

Reviewed: Mar. 25, 2006
This was tasty and moist. I used 1/2 cup oil + 1 cup unsweetened applesauce (and Spartan apples). I would make it again.

Apple Cake IV

Reviewed: Mar. 7, 2006
I made this as written (except I mixed by hand). It was too sweet for me; otherwise, very good. I would make it again, with less sugar. Mine cooked in 40 minutes.

Bob's Mexican Stuffed Chicken

Reviewed: Feb. 12, 2006
We really liked this recipe. Made it as written. I would only make half of the crushed cornflakes next time, as there was a lot leftover. As well, I think I'll spritz the chicken with some spray-oil, as the crumbs didn't stick as well as I would have liked. Definitely will make it again.

Spicy Rapid Roast Chicken

Reviewed: Jan. 21, 2006
We liked this, but it didn't wow us. Mostly we liked the spice rub, which is only on the skin. I may try it again on the grill; the splatter in my oven wasn't worth the result.

Canola Oil Pie Crust

Reviewed: Jan. 5, 2006
I tried this crust with a Shepherds' Pie recipe, but we didn't like it. It was very crumbly, rather than flakey. It was edible, but not very enjoyable. I won't make it again.

Southern Living magazine's Breakfast Casserole

Reviewed: Dec. 29, 2005
We enjoyed this. I added a bit of chopped red and green peppers for a festive look. I left out the salt: with the sausage and cheese, additional salt would have been too much. I will make it again, on occasion.

Quick and Easy Yorkshire Pudding

Reviewed: Dec. 26, 2005
These were fairly 'egg-y' for Yorkshire pudding, but very good nonetheless. I would make again.

Hard Chocolate Glaze

Reviewed: Oct. 30, 2005
I used this on sugar cookies: I dipped my Hallowe'en cat cookies right into the bowl. It made a tasty, firm (not hard) coating. I made half a recipe, and used chocolate chips: 1/4 cup of cold butter with 5 oz of chips in the microwave for one minute, then stirred. They were awesome cookies!

Quinoa and Black Beans

Reviewed: Oct. 16, 2005
This is the first time we've tried quinoa. This recipe was mildly flavoured and tasted good. We ate it with cheese and salsa. We didn't like the texture of the quinoa, though: it was similar to cream of wheat. Next time, I'll use part rice and part quinoa (for the health benefits).

Grandma Ople's Apple Pie

Reviewed: Oct. 11, 2005
This is a good, basic pie recipe. It didn't "wow" us, but it was well enjoyed! I will make it again, adding cinnamon & other pie spices. I didn't need 8 apples, either: 5 or 6 would have sufficed. I used Granny Smith apples, and the pie was just sweet enough.

Blueberry Lemon Bread

Reviewed: Sep. 28, 2005
Very good lemon bread. Very moist. It was not too sweet: the glaze on top was very tart. I dusted the berries with flour, but most of them still sank anyway.

I never would have considered putting sage in a stirfry. My husband & I both enjoyed it. I added more than a pinch of garlic!
