Oat-Chip Banana Bread

Reviewed: Jan. 2, 2007
I liked the taste and texture of the bread, although it was crumbly. I would have preferred it with pecans, rather than chocolate chips. I will probably try it again that way. It was on the sweet side.

Turkey Delight

Reviewed: Dec. 31, 2006
Good use of leftovers. I think we would have appreciated it more had we not already eaten leftovers for 2 days! I used leftover mashed potatoes, homemade stuffing and gravy, so the taste was very good: no further seasoning required.

Barley Turkey Soup

Reviewed: Dec. 27, 2006
This was good, but needed more seasoning for us: extra thyme and some sage.

Buttery Rolls

Absolutely A-1! Lovely, buttery, soft pull-apart rolls.

Baking Powder Biscuits

Reviewed: Oct. 12, 2006
Biscuits so tender they bordered on fragile. I turned the dough over on a floured surface, just 8 times until it would roughly hold together, before patting out the dough, rather than rolling it. I think I would leave out the sugar, unless I was using them for strawberry shortcake (and I think I will!) Will make again. Thanks for the recipe.

Basic Cream Cheese Frosting

Reviewed: Oct. 8, 2006
Excellent cream cheese frosting. I added a bit more icing sugar in order to pipe the frosting for decorating, otherwise I would have strictly followed the recipe.

Spaghetti Pie II

Reviewed: Oct. 6, 2006
This was good: it's spaghetti with cheese, afterall. My husband liked it more than spaghetti, because he "didn't have to fight with the noodles"(it cuts so easily with a fork into bite size pieces.) However, we didn't like it more than baked penne, so I doubt I'd make this again.

Tender Italian Baked Chicken

Reviewed: Sep. 22, 2006
This was good. The chicken does turn out juicy. We liked a thinner coat of the mayo mixture, rather than a thick coat. I'll probably make it again, it was so quick!

Favorite Banana Blueberry Quick Bread

Reviewed: Sep. 20, 2006
This is good; better the day after it has baked (moister and more flavourful). My only 'complaint' is that I couldn't really taste the blueberries (I used almost 1 cup). Banana was the prominent flavour. It took 65 minutes to bake. I may or may not make it again.

Blueberry Buckle

Reviewed: Sep. 10, 2006
I made this as written. It is a moist, tender cake, with bursts of blueberry and a crunchy topping. It was sweet and delicious (just cooled from the oven; it didn't last long!) I wouldn't change a thing. The batter is thick: I had to spread it into the pan, rather than "pour" it. It took 30 minutes to bake in my oven.

Jam Filled Butter Cookies

Reviewed: Sep. 8, 2006
These are buttery, light and melt in your mouth. Actually, they taste a lot like pie crust to me. However, they were well liked by family members who like shortbread and butter cookies, so I gave them 4 stars. Personally I would rate them a 3. I used homemade crabapple jelly.

Ground Beef Mexican Style

Reviewed: Aug. 21, 2006
Pretty good comfort food. I used hot, chunky salsa and 1 cup of cheese. Half a cup of cheese is not enough ;)

Italian Sausage, Peppers, and Onions

Reviewed: Aug. 18, 2006
Nice, simple recipe. I liked it, but my husband found it bland (even though I used hot Italian sausage). I would make it again, with some spice added.

Herb Roasted Pork

Reviewed: Jun. 10, 2006
My husband liked the sauce, but that was the only positive comment. We ate it, but it's unlikely I'll ever make it again. The combination of flavours just didn't agree with us, I guess.

Burrito Pie

Reviewed: Jun. 2, 2006
We enjoyed this, but didn't love it. I used hot taco sauce and added extra seasonings, but it still wasn't what I would call spicy or hot. I didn't like that some of the tortillas got almost mushy. I mixed the refried beans in with everything, as written, as my husband won't eat beans; he didn't mind them mixed in. I will probably make it again, definitely adding in corn as other reviewers suggested.

Peanut Butter Pie 2000

Reviewed: May 31, 2006
Very good. This is the first time I've ever tasted peanut butter pie. It's very rich (and sweet), despite using natural peanut butter (part creamy, part crunchy), reduced fat cream cheese, 'light' Cool Whip and skim milk! We ate it with chocolate sauce. Will make again for sure.

Creamy Blueberry Pie

Reviewed: May 17, 2006
We liked this, but I'm not sure I'd make it again. (Maybe if I had only one crust, as I did this time.) It tasted good, but I'm discovering that I don't like the texture of flour as a thickener in fruit pies. The crumble topping was too crunchy/hard for me, although my husband liked it. We both found the pie to be too sweet.

Applesauce Bars

Reviewed: Apr. 19, 2006
These are yummy! They are very moist, dense, and similar in taste to carrot cake. I made a double batch, because I had applesauce that needed to be used up (which I made from apples that needed to be used up; I don't think I'll have that problem with these bars!) You can see in my picture that the double batch cooks to about 1 1/4" high. My applesauce was unsweetened. I will also try these as written, so that they are more bar like, and try cream cheese frosting as well.

Black Bottom Cupcakes II

Reviewed: Apr. 14, 2006
I made these as written. They were great; definitely for those who love chocolate. Next time I'll try QRSC100's suggestion of using coffee instead of water, or maybe some mint in the cream cheese, just for variation.

Sugar Cookie Glaze

Reviewed: Apr. 14, 2006
I used light cream instead of water. This was the perfect finish for sugar cookies.
