About this Cook
I live with my husband in beautiful Nova Scotia. We have two border collies. We love camping with our trailer. I enjoy cooking dishes like pizza and roast chicken over the campfire coals, as well as pudgy pies! Besides cooking, I love to garden: mostly flowers and herbs so far.
My favorite things to cook
I love making sugar cookies: cutting different shapes and decorating them with various glazes, sugars and candies. They never fail to please all ages.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Beef stew, oatmeal brown bread. Really nice on a cold fall or winter day.
My cooking triumphs
Wedding cakes. They're a lot of work! I was also pretty pleased the day I made puff pastry and it actually puffed! Recipes are like magic when they work, frustrating puzzles when they don't.
My cooking tragedies
The first time I ever made microwave popcorn, about 25 years ago. I was babysitting my 2 year old niece; the popcorn burned, smoke filled the house, and she and I had to stand outside in the cold until the air was clear. My little niece made sure to tell her parents all about our adventure, and she still remembers it, even now!

Mom's Chocolate Meringue Pie
This turned out really well for me. I made it as written, no alterations are required! Smooth, creamy, old fashioned chocolate pie. The recipe is very similar to my grandmother's wartime chocolate pie. Ingredients weren't fancy, nor were they squandered. My pie filling was set 2 hours out of the oven, at room temperature. (Yes, I couldn't wait to test it! The rest was eaten chilled.) The crust was still warm when I poured in the filling, and I did not have runny filling.

A-Number-1 Banana Cake
Wow! Actual banana cake, not bread. Light & tender cake. Our cake wasn't too sweet, even though the bananas were way past overripe. I used a 9x13" pan, baked for 30 minutes, frosted with cinnamon cream cheese frosting.

Sausage Pasta
Very tasty! I used fresh basil and added some freshly ground black pepper. There was a bit of liquid left in the pan (delicious liquid!), but it was nothing that a piece of garlic bread couldn't soak up!
