Slow Cooker Chops

Reviewed: Mar. 4, 2010
I had high hopes, but I was disappointed. Only modification I made was using bone-in chops because boneless were too expensive. The gravy was watery and bland, even after I added some cornstarch to thicken it near the end. It was still edible, and smelled great, but my daughter only had 2 bites. Oh, well.

Alison's Colcannon

Reviewed: Mar. 17, 2009
I made this for a St. Patrick's Day potluck luncheon at the office, adding a bit of green food colour. I must have done something wrong, because rather than steamed cabbage, I got mostly sauteed cabbage. I followed the directions as written, but maybe I was supposed to add water...? No matter, the end results was quite tasty. A side note: several people commented that they couldn't even taste the cabbage, and that they thought it was all just skin-on mashed potatoes.

Erica's Delicious Slow Cooker Beef Roast

Reviewed: Feb. 26, 2008
Loved this! I did make the following changes, based upon the suggestions of other reviewers: I used 2 cans of cream of mushroom and added a can of beef broth, and a few halved Yukon Gold potatoes. I also used a packet of Lipton onion soup instead of a fresh onion. The gravy was rich and savory, and it made terrific leftovers, too!

Chicken with Stuffing

Reviewed: Nov. 19, 2007
Really quite tasty, and SO easy! I omitted the butter in order to reduce the fat content, and I don't think it made any difference as far as taste, because it was very rich.

Mom's Zucchini Bread

Reviewed: Nov. 19, 2007
Delicious! I substituted raisins for the walnuts (no one in my house cares for nuts), and it was just fantastic, and so easy my four-year-old was able to "help" me bake...can't rave enough about it.

Super Sunday Chicken

Reviewed: Nov. 16, 2007
I have been trying different stuffing and chicken recipes lately, and I did this one last night. I used the roasted garlic cream of mushroom soup, and I found that one can wasn't enough sauce, so I used 2. I also added a layer of green beans between the cheese and the soup sauce (one can of the French-cut, drained). If I had rated this last night, I would have given it only 3 stars, but as leftovers, it was really terrific. Maybe sitting overnight helped the flavours meld...?

Janet's Rich Banana Bread

Reviewed: Nov. 14, 2007
This was my first attempt at baking ANYTHING, and it came out perfectly. I mostly followed the recipe, except that I don't care for walnuts, so I used chocolate chips instead. And, as several other reviewers suggested, I used three mashed bananas instead of two sliced. I brought the finished product to share at work today, and got rave reviews! A definite keeper!

Easy Slow Cooker Chicken

Reviewed: Nov. 9, 2007
I made this yesterday, and it turned out well, albeit messy-looking. (But as a single mom of a preschooler, presentation is not all that important to me...) I like that it made good leftovers, and the house made the house smell wonderful. Following the advice of other reviewers, I added a can of chicken broth, black pepper, and some garlic powder. I did find that it needed quite a bit longer to cook, though. It took almost 8 hours on low. Maybe that was because I used whole-grain brown rice instead of white, but I did find that the brown rice imparted a nice nuttiness to the flavor.

Chicken, Stuffing and Green Bean Casserole

Reviewed: Nov. 9, 2007
I made this last night and really liked it. It tasted even better as leftovers for lunch today. My picky preschooler also ate it both times, including the beans, which is a real plus, because I can't usually get her to eat green veggies. I made only one change: I couldn't find unseasoned stuffing, so I used sage flavored StoveTop. This was fine for us, because I like my chicken heavily seasoned.
