About this Cook
I'm currently at home with my wee baby boy, born Easter Sunday, 2007. I also have two teenage children, a girl and a boy, so the youngest one was definitely a most welcome surprise!
My favorite things to cook
I love cooking in general, not a fancy cook, just good wholesome stuff, my teenagers and husband eat pretty much anything and everything, from Asian inspired food to Mexican, Chilean (my husband in from Chile and my two oldest were born in Chile as well). I also love baking whether it's muffins or cookies, cakes or bread. I've also tried my hand at chocolate making and with the new arrival I'm keen to do some cake decorating for all those upcoming birthdays!
My favorite family cooking traditions
I always make empanadas for the 18th September (Chile's national day), but that's pretty much it really.
My cooking triumphs
Kids eat my food! And I've also taught Italian Cooking through community education evening courses.
My cooking tragedies
Aged 8, I made a 'coffee cake' without my mum's authorization, I made up the recipe and added heaps of coffee, sugar, and can't remember what else. Thank goodness it was very small 'cause my mum made me eat it! After that she bought me a cookbook and things definitely improved.

The Best Rolled Sugar Cookies
Made heaps and heaps, like over 100 cookies, but I felt they needed a little more flavor, perhaps lemon zest.

Chocolate Covered Cherry Cookies II
My cookies looked like the cookies in the photo "Marla" took, the chocolate topping went a bit messy, they didn't look very nice at all but the taste was great. My son loved them, kept going back for more. Flavor-wise, they were very yummy and chocolaty, with a fudgy center, which made me think of brownies. So for taste they get 5 stars, but for presentation it would have to be 2.... but I guess we're rating for taste in this instance!
