I like cooking, especially baking. I pretty much play it by ear whenever I cook, much like the southern women in my family. I love making desserts, and my number one thing when it comes to food is always having variations and choices! I'm always trying to think/look for something new and different, or taking old plain recipes and twisting them. I'm from Maryland, so I LOVE seafood, and my other favorite is italian!
My favorite things to cook
Pan fried zucchini and carrots over pasta.
Clams over pasta in a white sauce.
Any type of fettucine alfredo. Crab cakes.
Crabs and clams.
Salmon over asparagus.
Mashed sweet potatoes.
Anything with broccoli and cheese.
Deep fried oreos.
Most desserts, as long as they're without fruit or nuts.
Okay, I'll have to stop here, or I'll be here all day typing this, ha!
My favorite family cooking traditions
Tea cakes with chocolate frosting.
pasta (I was raised on it).
Deer meat, or fresh fish, which we have whenever my dad goes hunting/fishing.
My cooking triumphs
Impossibly easy zucchini pie, a recipe which I got from betty crocker, which my family gobbled down.
Mother's day cakes (see my cooking tragedies)
Car birthday cakes, another betty crocker
My legendary brownies!
My cooking tragedies
The day before mother's day, I came home at 10 & stayed up until 4. Because our oven was broken, I had to use a small pan in a toaster oven to make cupcakes (for mother's day brunch at my grandmother's), which didn't turn out like I planned. The icing was sour and I had less sugar than I had thought. I made 2 cakes for my mother and grandma as presents which I didn't frost until right before I saw them, cause I had to run to the store to get icing! Before I left for my grandma's, I made cinnamon rolls in case the cupcakes were bad. They loved the cinnamon rolls, which I thought were dry. The cakes were good, though. My grandmother ate hers in a few days, and my mom shared hers with me. They were moist and rich.
Another time, I was at my grandma's, and I wanted to try and make a jelly roll cake. It tasted fine, but it broke when I rolled it. This was served 2 days later at that same brunch.
