I'm in college and have to live on campus (school rules, but it cuts into my cooking experience), but I love to experiment with different things whenever I'm home! I love making desserts for family and friends, and anything chocolate-y is grand. This past summer I gained a lot of experience with fresh ingredients and healthier fare than cookies and cakes, so I continue to work on both my cooking and baking skills!
My favorite things to cook
I'll be real, I have a sweet tooth! But I love the taste of whole-grain, good-for-you type bakes (oatmeal anything, bran muffins, whole wheat rolls, etc.)
I'm not so much of a pasta fan (unless it's tortellini with some spinach sauce), but I'm going to start experimenting with different sauces to go on fish. I love seafood! And meat in general. Sloppy Joes are my guilty pleasure.
My favorite family cooking traditions
I make a delicious coffee kuchen whenever my dad is craving it. It's such a family staple that we all think it's weird when coffee cakes don't actually have coffee in them!
I also usually whip up a batch of my cinnamon always-soft chocolate chip cookies, or labor over some cinnamon rolls for friends' birthdays. The cinnamon rolls were made legendary by my sister, so I figured I would continue the tradition!
My cooking triumphs
I put together the best potato au gratin recipe ever, even better than the restaurant that I adapted the recipe from...and then promptly lost it. That was a few years back, and I just haven't taken the time to make them again, so I'll have to see what I can put together when I do.
My cooking tragedies
I tried to make bagels once, but they turned out to be chewy bagel-shaped dough things. I don't think I let them boil long enough to form an actual crust. Ah well, try, try again!
