Homemade Wine

Reviewed: Jul. 5, 2012
I'm giving this five stars based on its simplicity and affordability. I've done both fruit and concentrate wines (made this twice now) and when I'm lacking the additives and/or fruit (and don't particularly feel like spending a bundle) this is the way to go. Listen to the reviews though: DO use wine yeast, DO put a tiny pinprick in the balloon (or condom, whichever you prefer), and DO make sure to siphon the wine and filter if you want to waste the least amount possible :) Great recipe, thanks for sharing!

Boston Brown Bread III

I'd give it six stars if I could. Made it as is--no changes or additions and it is absolutely delicious.

Mom's Zucchini Bread

Reviewed: Jul. 27, 2012
This is almost exactly the same recipe as the one my grandma gave me (that I subsequently lost), and is delicious as is. I don't peel my zucchini and I leave out the nuts. It's perfect, thank you.

Cauliflower-Cheese Soup

Reviewed: Jun. 25, 2012
YUM. I pretty much made as is but I used more cauliflower instead of potatoes, and omitted the celery (I simply forgot it!). I did add 2 tsp chicken bouillon granules, and subbed half the cheese for frito lay mild cheddar cheese dip to cut down on the calories. The recipe is delicious, and I don't believe subbing half dip on my doubled recipe made any difference in flavor. Thanks so much!

Mom's Macaroni and Cheese

Reviewed: Mar. 14, 2012
Sooo good. We all loved it; the sauce was thick and coated the macaroni well, and was not stringy or clumpy. I didn't follow exact measurements but I think I was pretty close; however, I did add a bit more salt and pepper than the recipe called for. This was really good and required minimal ingredients so I think it's a keeper!

Amish White Bread

Reviewed: Apr. 26, 2011
This one is definitely a winner and my husband who used to only love the store-bought Hawaiian rolls has found a new fave. I do often cheat and do the first rise in the bread machine, but I always bake it in the oven after rising once more in the loaf pan. Thanks for sharing! P.S. We love it with the amount of sugar directed. It's not too sweet, but it does well with less sugar for a more normal "roll" flavor with certain dishes.

Bagels I

Reviewed: Apr. 26, 2011
YUM. These were awesome. I followed the directions exactly...except for not flipping the bagels in the water for a third time on the first batch. I noticed on the second batch that the bagels were much smoother on the top if I did the final flip, and therefore much prettier. Either way, ALL of them tasted delicious even without cream cheese and my family couldn't leave them alone!

Angel Chicken Pasta

Reviewed: Jun. 3, 2010
After making this recipe for over 2 years, it's time to give credit where it's due. First of all, the creative combination blends very well. Second, when you don't have everything on hand, this is also versatile. I've subbed a bottle of italian for the seasoning packet and wine before; I usually don't have chive cream cheese on hand and reg. cr. cheese works fine, I just add some onion powder and dried chives although I'm not sure it's necessary; I have also made this with regular cr. of mushroom (golden IS better though); I typically use chicken broth instead of wine without really any difference in flavor. However much you want to switch things around to your liking, it still comes out great--but it still deserves 5 stars as is. Thanks for sharing!

Fruity Fun Skewers

Reviewed: May 6, 2010
I just wanted to add a little tip for keeping the fruit from turning color...a little lemon juice works wonders on apples---I'm not sure if it'll do the same for bananas but worth a try.

Cake Mixes from Scratch and Variations

Reviewed: Apr. 27, 2010
Wonderful homemade cake recipe. As other reviewers suggested I sifted the flour for the white cake recipe, subbed oil for the shortening, and I folded in beaten egg whites last. Thank you.

Amish Bread

My family cannot get enough of this bread! I follow the recipe exactly except I always use the dough setting on my breadmaker then bake the bread in the oven.

Cheddar Beef Enchiladas

Reviewed: Jan. 18, 2010
I have made these several times and they always turn out great. Even my picky husband loves them (who does not like burritos, tacos, or any enchiladas but the cheese kind). I have never used the topping, and only add the cheddar when I bake them. Excellent and easy recipe!

Baked Salmon II

Okay, I've been using this recipe for at least 2 years and it is absolutely the best salmon recipe ever! I do usually cut the olive oil in half and I always use dried parsley.

Jay's Jerk Chicken

This was the first jerk chicken I've ever made or had, and my entire family loved it! I only wish I would have marinated the chicken a bit longer.

Garlic-Herb Roast Pork

Reviewed: Aug. 22, 2012
Best pork ever. The flavor combination paired with the crispness of the outside are delicious. I make it as is except I cook it all the way through. When my husband gets too full to eat any more, he cuts the tops off so he can eat more of the crusty outside.

Cajun Chicken

Reviewed: Aug. 22, 2012
I needed a quick recipe since we had company who stayed longer than anticipated. I ran across this and I had everything (except lemon pepper, so I subbed lemon juice and cracked black pepper) on hand, including my salt-free cajun seasoning from this website (Cajun Spice Seasoning Mix in a Jar). I added a bit of salt to it and barbecued. The outside was the perfect combo of spices, and it was nice and crispy! My guests begged me for the recipe. Thanks!

Oatmeal Pie IV

I made this for my picky husband who does not like nuts. He still thought it tasted like pecan pie made with nuts (so if you're allergic, this is a great substitution recipe!) However, everyone else loved it!

Kung Pao Chicken

Reviewed: Mar. 2, 2009
Delicious! I was out of several things so I used some chopped up almonds and a little bit of peanutbutter, I was also out of chili sauce so I used a little bit of cayenne pepper and some red pepper flakes. I also quadrupled the sauce and used green peppers and onions in this recipe. Thanks!
