Stuffed Green Peppers I

Reviewed: Oct. 8, 2012
Par-boiling the peppers really makes this recipe shine! No more too crunchy pepper with overcooked filling! I use more seasoning than this recipe calls for - I like to add a bunch of Italian seasoning to the beef mixture. I also prefer using pre-cooked frozen rice rather than uncooked rice whenever I can find it. Then you can shorten the time the mixture simmers before adding it to the peppers. I also like to mix my favorite spaghetti sauce into the beef/rice mixture in advance rather than pouring a can of bland (and super salty!) tomato sauce over the top.

Homestyle Turkey, the Michigander Way

Reviewed: Oct. 8, 2012
10 years ago when I was spending my first holiday season away from family, I discovered this recipe and decided to try it for Thanksgiving. It was SO MUCH BETTER than my family's traditional turkey recipe that we've never gone back. Since then we've had a number of holiday guests who have made it their own as well. I do use more butter and seasoning than the recipe calls for, but it's an excellent basic turkey recipe that you can adapt based on your taste & turkey size.

Sweet Restaurant Slaw

Reviewed: Oct. 8, 2012
Yum! This recipe is SO GOOD! I've done it with & without the onion, with white onion as well as red, with a bit less sugar and it's good every time. It does indeed taste like sweet restaurant coleslaw and is my new go-to recipe for coleslaw.

Whole Grain Waffles

Reviewed: Jan. 8, 2012
These have a fabulous flavor - some of the best I've had in any waffle, anywhere. Unfortunately, the texture just isn't right. They're too soft and don't get that crispy exterior that a waffle should. Even when I set my waffle maker to a high/dark setting they don't retain the crispiness normally associated with waffles. Love the flavor, but I almost wonder if it would make better pancake batter than waffle batter.

Chocolate-Covered Cherry Cookies

Reviewed: Dec. 16, 2011
These are amazing! I made them for a holiday cookie swap and they were very popular. I added another 1/2 cherry to the top of the frosting to make them a bit more visually attractive.

Almond Bars

Reviewed: Dec. 16, 2011
These are really good! As another viewer suggested I made a glaze out of powdered sugar and poured it over the top. Yum! I think I'm going to use them for my neighborhood cookie exchange this year.

Spicy Garlic Lime Chicken

Reviewed: Jun. 4, 2011
Simple, yet fantastic recipe! I like seasoning so I did 1/4 tsp of everything and used it on just two chicken breasts and that amount was perfect for us. I also used the full amount of the lime juice. It wasn't very spicy, but it was extremely flavorful and juicy. No dry chicken with this recipe! And the best part? It's seriously low calorie for those (like me) who are watching their weight.

Cucumber Slices With Dill

Reviewed: Oct. 3, 2010
I followed this recipe exactly and it's fabulous! It's the perfect refreshing side to heavy main dishes. Though it's exactly like my German mother-in-law makes, I think that if you like the sweet cucumbers you get on the side of many Thai dishes, you'll also love this recipe.

Basic Baked Spaghetti

Reviewed: Sep. 4, 2010
Nice & tasty. Quick, too, but lacks seasoning. Add your own favorites (I used onion, Italian seasoning, garlic, & red pepper flakes). Nothing special, but a good solid starter recipe.

Too Much Chocolate Cake

Reviewed: Aug. 8, 2010
Fabulous cake and SO EASY to make! And, I say that as someone who isn't much into baking. It's also highly customizable, which I love! Just trade out for different flavors of cake mix, pudding mix, and chips/morsels. Works great with yellow cake, butterscotch pudding & butterscotch morsels. Also with lemon cake, lemon pudding and white chocolate chips. See? FABULOUS!
