Hello Dollies I

Reviewed: Jan. 31, 2001
These were the easiest thing I've made in ages! My brother LOVES Hello Dollies and I made them for him. He said he found a recipe but it looked too long and time-consuming. I whipped these together in about 5 minutes and he ADORED them. He said that they are as good as the bakery bought ones that he pays almost $3 per square for. I used almonds instead of pecans. I like the flavor better than those I've eaten with pecans. Very appealing and aesthetically pleasing in the pan.

Filet Mignon with Rich Balsamic Glaze

Reviewed: Apr. 6, 2008
Oh my goodness. I tried this recipe on Valentine's Day. My husband and I were going out the next night and my brother and his wife were in the process of moving across the state and in with us. She was out of town on their first married Valentine's. I made this and everyone was in awe. My brother is very hard to please and he said it's better than any steak he's ever had (quite a statement from him). My husband and I went to an exclusive winery the next night and this steak was 100% better. I doubled the glaze and rubbed garlic into the meat. I, also, rested the meat for about 60 minutes before cooking.

House Fried Rice

Reviewed: Apr. 28, 2003
A bit greasy. I used only pork chops (they were originally about 3" x 5" x 1.5", cubed and cooked) as meat and lots of vegetables. I'll never add ham, but the chicken and *maybe* the shrimp will be tried in the future. My husband and I really loved it. It was very salty and we didn't feed it to our daughter. We thought of tons of ways to make variations -- broccoli and cashews being the ones we'll try next. It is a definite repeat recipe. Eggs are not too overpowering. That is a real plus! This is a keeper. The main thing with this one is to EXPERIMENT and go with what sounds tasty. The recipe is so easy and versitile that it will be hard to go wrong!

Bread Pot Fondue

Reviewed: Dec. 19, 2002
This is wonderful. This is a great recipe and is widely enjoyed. I've also eaten it with crumbled bacon and with both ham and bacon. I've always found that it takes considerably longer to heat throroughly in my oven (which admittedly cooks a little slower). This is great -- if you haven't tried it yet, you must give it a chance.

Mrs. Sigg's Snickerdoodles

Reviewed: Oct. 15, 2001
I grew up with my grandmother's snickerdoodles. I was so spoiled with them. I was craving them one night (one of those pregnancy things) and it was too late to call her. So I made these. They are every bit as good as my grandmother's! Soft and chewy! Not crunch and hard like little hockey pucks! Yum!

Chocolate Eclair Dessert

Reviewed: Oct. 15, 2001
I have made this recipe several times for family events. I've used both regular graham crackers and the chocolate flavored ones. Both are equally enjoyed. This recipe take NO MORE than 10 minutes start to finish. I also use the french vanilla pudding and the fudge flavored ready-made icing. ***Spreading the icing is the easiest part! I stick it in the microwave for 45 seconds and it is a melty glaze consistency that pours right on. I use a knife to spread the fudge to the edges and it is perfect! When refrigerated, the icing returns to a beautiful firmer consistency. It does look more like a glaze (like on real eclairs), but it is not thin and runny. Personally I don't like the recipe, but I don't really care for chocolate. My family (and even my mother-in-law and sister-in-law -- a caterer -- who actively dislikes me) enjoy this one. And it looks so much more difficult than it is!

I used a homemade soy sauce and we loved this salmon (my husband ate two filets!). It was amazing and we'll definitely be eating this again.

Cream of Mushroom Soup I

Reviewed: Feb. 21, 2001
This DID NOT take 50 minutes prep/cook time! It was super fast. I figured it would be hard because I had never made a cream soup before. This was easier than baking the potatoes for dinner. I did not puree the mushroom. I sliced them in pretty large pieces. I thought the slices of mushroom were very pretty and it did not change the consistency at all. The soup was ABSOLUTELY DELICIOUS. I was quite amazed at myself!

Soy Sauce Substitute

Reviewed: May 25, 2012
I reduced it WAY too much, but this was amazing stuff. I don't think I'll ever buy soy sauce again. Super easy.

Anniversary Chicken I

Reviewed: Feb. 20, 2001
This took a while for me to make. I used real bacon instead of bacon bits. The meal was VERY rich but delicious. I like richer foods than my husband does, but he went back for seconds. I took the leftovers to my grandfather and he loved it also.

Chicken Cordon Bleu I

Reviewed: Jan. 16, 2001
My husband is rather difficult to please. He loved this and was amazed that it tasted so good! He doesn't like to be the guinea pig for a new recipe but this one surprised him. I used black forest ham and a lot more cheese that called for inside, so I skipped the layer on top. Very easy and super tasty.

Skillet Chops with Mushroom Gravy

Reviewed: Feb. 5, 2001
I didn't use the parmasean or the milk and added a can of drained mushrooms. It took a bit longer than 20 minutes to cook, but I had boneless pork chops over 1" thick. The extra time was WELL WORTH the wait! These were delicious! My husband loved them. My only regret -- next time I'd double the mushroom gravy. I only cooked three pork chops and ran out. It was so tasty! Thanks for a great recipe and a DEFINITE repeat!!!

Yellow Squash Casserole

Reviewed: Mar. 14, 2001
This was a hit at my dinner party last night! Everyone loved it. My husband thought it was especially great. My mother thought it was one of the best parts of the meal. I thought it was too eggy. I guess I'm the odd one out. The cheesy crunchy topping was really good.

Goldy's Special Salad

Reviewed: Feb. 27, 2002
I doubled the amount of everything except the spinach and fed 5 for lunch. We had plenty of leftovers. Mango was a delightful addition. The dressing was very tart and I added about 1/8 c of sugar. I would add more next time. Husband and company loved the salad. I will make it again. It was great with soup and sourdough rolls on a cold day!

Hugs and Kisses Crescents

Reviewed: Feb. 21, 2001
SUPER EASY! These took about 2 minutes to make (once I unwrapped the kisses). They tasted ok. I mixed cinnamon in with the powdered sugar and sifted it on top of them all. With a little Hershey's syrup swirled on the plate, powdered sugar on top and a strawberry cut and fanned on the side, this looked a little elegant.

Cheese Dipping Sauce

Reviewed: Jan. 15, 2002
I, too, tried this recipe twice. I found that it came out tasting odd. Gritty is not quite right. I suppose powdery is a good word. Just plain odd. I also thought it tasted very mustardy and reduced the mustard on the second try to about 1/3 t. Overall, not a favorite recipe of mine. However, it was very easy and quick.

Caramel Pie I

Reviewed: Feb. 16, 2001
Not exactly what I was expecting. I LOVE caramel and didn't really love the pie. My husband doesn't like caramel and liked the pie. It was easy and fairly quick. It wasn't very caramelly. Taste was ok, though.
