Cornucopia

Reviewed: Nov. 29, 2009
The directions were easy to follow but we needed four packages of crescent rolls instead of three. The result was beautiful and functional. We finished with an acrylic spray to preserve the cornucopia. Be sure to use an extra set of hands for construction because it was a bit tricky to cover the underside.

Chantal's New York Cheesecake

Reviewed: Nov. 9, 2009
This recipe was so simple to make. Some of the take-away points from other reviews that made this better for a novice cheesecake baker included: 1) room temperature ingredients, 2) grease the pan to allow proper cooling without cracks, 3) when preparing the water bath, use an oven bag to place the pan in to prevent any type of leaks to reach the cheesecake, 4) added some cinammon and nutmeg to the crust ingredients. This cheesecake was just wonderful. Fluffy, moist, and perfect consistency. I am not a good cook, but I did it!!! And, my family ate the whole cake with nothing to spare. Way to go!!

Banana Pudding IV

Reviewed: Jun. 21, 2009
This was one of the first recipes that I followed completely and the results were awesome. I made this for a dinner party with another family and the kids completely devoured the dessert, leaving only a taste for us parents. That's the mark of a successful dessert. Six out six children rated this pudding 5 stars!!!

Favorite Banana Blueberry Quick Bread

Reviewed: Feb. 1, 2009
This was a great recipe and is flexible enough to support improvisation. I had to make some changes due to items in my kitchen and based on other reviews. I replaced quick oats with 2 packs of instant oatmeal (maple and brown sugar flavor); omitted the salt; I only had 2 bananas; I added 1 tsp. vanilla, 1 tsp. cinnamon, 1/2 tsp. nutmeg, replaced 1/2 c. applesauce for the shortening (great choice), used 1 c. fresh blueberries, didn't have nuts so I used 1/2 c. choc. chips (yum), and baked for about 60 minutes. The kids went WILD for it after their first bites. Wonderful texture and intense flavor. Delicious. I don't usually like to alter recipes, but this time I had no choice. Only including my review to show what a great original recipe it is since it could support so many alterations. For this, it is a 5!!!

Chicken Pot Pie I

Reviewed: Jan. 7, 2009
Believe it or not this was the first time I ever ate or made chicken pot pie. This recipe was easy enough for a novice cook like me to succeed with flying colors. I boiled my chicken in chicken stock, used chicken with herbs condensed soup, and a bag of frozen mixed veggies. My 2 picky children ate 2 helpings and asked for this recipe to become a regular menu item. I loved it. It was simple, flavorful, and affordable. Wonderful.

Banana Muffins II

Reviewed: Nov. 25, 2007
Really enjoyed this recipe. I added the cinnamon, vanilla, and nutmeg as recommended by other reviewers. I also added chopped walnuts and chocolate chips. While I suppose the rating I'm giving this recipe isn't authentic since the recipe has changed rather dramatically, the basic ingredients did a great job and offer good flexibility. The muffins were dense, flavorful, and moist. I will definitely make these again.

Maple Roast Turkey and Gravy

Reviewed: Nov. 22, 2007
This recipe was very good and will be used a staple foundation for our holiday turkeys. We used our Weber grill instead of an oven and cooked this 12 lb bird at indirect medium for just under 3 hours. We basted hourly and it turned out awesome. We will use this recipe for years to come.

Easy Lima Beans

Reviewed: Nov. 22, 2007
These lima beans were the best I've ever made. I used chicken stock to heat the limas and also added 1 Tbsp. of pan drippings from our turkey to add flavor. I did not add onion to the beans, and did not need any salt or pepper. The family loved the beans which made me really happy.

Cranberry, Sausage and Apple Stuffing

Reviewed: Nov. 22, 2007
I combined this with the maple turkey recipe as recommended and absolutely loved it. This was awesome. I couldn't believe how tasty it was. I added a bit more cranberries and chopped pecans. I also used pepperidge farm cubed bread crumbs. Tasted great. I added extra chicken broth and apple juice as needed--but the recipe was truly execeptional on its own.

Cranberry Sauce Extraordinaire

Reviewed: Nov. 22, 2007
WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!! This was so great. I knew from the minute I was cooking this that I was making something special. My entire family raved about the taste. I added a bit more chopped pecans and pulsed the finished product in the food processor a couple times to create a slightly smoother finish. This was the hit of the dinner. We now have a new family "must-have" for our holiday dinners. Thank you for this recipe.
