Butterhorn Rolls

Reviewed: Sep. 30, 2007
I started these last night and had to resist the temptation to add more flour than the recipe calls for. Let them sit in the fridge over night and rolled them out using a 8 in pan lid to make even circles. Next time I'll try for 10 or 12 as 8 as a bit small but made 40 rolls. I used half the butter called for and they were buttery enough for me. Let them rise about 5 or 6 hours while I was at the movies and baked for 9 minutes when I got home. They turned out great with a little too much flour on the outside, next time I'll try rolling w/out flour.

Salsa Chicken

Easy, delicious and now on a biweekly rotation in my house. Also convertable to the crock pot for those hot summer days when you don't want the oven on. Thanks

Pumpkin-Pecan Cake Roll

Reviewed: Oct. 12, 2007
I tried the version of this in the Halloween 07 download for this site. Same recipe with a full cup of pumpkin puree and only one package of cream cheese. My husband loved it and brought some to work where his coworkers fough over the last piece. It's a bit sweet of my taste and I lost quite a bit of frosting rolling it. Maybe next time I will only use 1/2 cup confectioners sugar with one package of cream cheese and only frost the first 3/4-4/5 of the roll leting the oozing frosting push it's way to the bottom.

Homestyle Turkey, the Michigander Way

Reviewed: Oct. 8, 2007
Awesome flavor and aroma. My husband thought the turkey was done after an hour cause it smelled so good. Made it today for Canadian Thanksgiving and followed the recipe with only one exception. The butcher had nearly removed the legs and removed a large portion of the skin he chopped such a large whole for stuffing (the joys of picking frozen products in opaque wrapping). Point is I was afraid the bird would fall apart if I slit the skin open so we just rubbed the butter on. And for anyone else with a overly butchered bird use dental floss to tie the legs together, if you want it tigher still tie the legs to the wings.

Simple Scones

Love this recipe. I usually make craisin with almond extract or lemon poppy seed. For the poppy seeds 1-1/2 to 2 tablespoons of seeds is plenty.

Baked Teriyaki Chicken

Reviewed: Aug. 13, 2007
Great sauce. Husband thought it needed more sugar and I have no idea how much he added (dumping straight from the sugar bowl) and it was still great. It made alot of sauce for the two of us and I used only half the prepared sauce, but we didn't use a lot of chicken. Served with rice and drizzled with extra sauce.

Easy Broccoli Quiche

I use this quiche recipe all the time. Family favorite version is ham, bacon and cheddar instead of broccoli and moz.

Mini Cheesecakes

Reviewed: Jun. 12, 2008
I cut the recipe in half and used a homemade graham cracker crust and homemade strawberry topping. The cheesecake recipe is great, not too sweet and full of flavor. The cooking directions where also right on. For best results let cool before removing from paper. I'd also recommend pulling out the creamcheese early to let it soften.

Pilgrim Pumpkin Pie

Reviewed: Oct. 8, 2007
Tried this yesterday for today's Thanksgiving dinner. Got half way through the recipe opened the pumpkin and realized that OOpps it's not pumpkin puree it's premade pie filling. So I made the premade filling pie then and this one the next day. The premade was so bad we threw it away and this only was everyone's top choice. We didn't even cut open our apple pie. Made my own pie crust and tried the topping but my cream didn't whip very well. I'll give the cream another try cause I will certainly be making this again.

Mrs. Sigg's Snickerdoodles

Reviewed: Sep. 22, 2007
Good cookie, nice and crispy. However my mini sized apartment oven which is too small for my good cookie sheets I need to use my smaller dark coated ones. At 400 for 8 minutes the sugar on the bottom burns so I cooked for 7m. Maybe next time I'll bake at 375.

Chocolate Sauce

Reviewed: Jul. 11, 2008
Good flavor but I also found it too runny. DO NOT add chocolate to thicken this. My husband and I tried to add semisweet baking chocolate and it wasn't the smooth sauce it's supposed to be, it keep small bits of the whole chocolate. Just use less water or try corn syrup. Next time I might make the syrup first (sugar and water) and when that thickens add the cocoa.

Lemon Poppy Seed Bread

Reviewed: Mar. 22, 2008
I'm giving this four because the flavor was good but it's not a perfect recipe. First off it's more like a cake or pound cake then bread- but we knew that from the amount of sugar. Secondly it only makes 2 loaves not three. Third I found the edges to be a little dark by the time the middle was done(just like in the current picture). Delicious but it's only called bread because of the loaf pan.

Sea Bass with Honeyed Apples

Reviewed: Apr. 2, 2008
I was running late and didn't have time to bread it (plus no bread or breadcrumbs on hand) so I fried it with salt and pepper. Next time I'll be use to bread it I think it would be better. Use fresh local honey and the sauce was great. Not too fond of the bass I had so I think next time will be with cod instead.

Dana's Tropical Fruit Smoothie

Reviewed: Jun. 29, 2008
I used peach yogurt 'cause that's what I had. Good flavor, nice and creamy. I did use less ice also. 4 not 5 stars 'cause I didn't like the texture from the crushed pinapple too much, next time I think I'll use orange-pineapple juice.

Best Brownies

Reviewed: Sep. 29, 2007
I hate em. My husband loves them. Someone said this recipe is the one on the Fry cocoa container. It is close but not quite. I prefer Fry's version a little thicker. 1 1/3 cup flour, 1 tsp b.powder, 1/2 tsp salt, 1 cup butter, 2 cups sugar, 1 cup Fry's cocoa, 4 eggs, 1 1/2 tsp vanilla, 1 cup nuts (optional) Bake 30-35 minutes at 350.
