I'm an engineer. My dad has always gardened, so I developed an appreciation at a young age for growing my own vegetables. I wouldn't say I'm good at gardening, but I love preparing a dish and saying "I grew that."
My favorite things to cook
I love to bake cookies and quick breads.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Thanksgiving Day. My family has a very strict idea of what is supposed to be on the menu. Each year we try to add something new or drop something, but everybody has their favorite and doesn't like change. I started helping out when I was young and have taken over now that I'm an adult.
My cooking triumphs
I won my local newspaper's annual cooking contest in the cookies category. It was my grandma's recipe, but everyone loved them.
My cooking tragedies
The first meal I prepared for my now husband was fried chicken strips. They were supposed to be italian flavored, but I burnt them and that meal is now remembered as "blackened chicken."

Sweet and Sour Meatballs II
I seasoned the meatballs with a little bit of cajun seasoning. I baked the meatballs at 350 for 20 minutes. Then I put them in a slow cooker and poured the sauce over top. I cooked it on low for a few hours to let the sauce permeate the meatballs.

Blueberry Zucchini Bread
I made these for my coworkers. Overall they liked them, but I thought they needed some texture. Oh, I baked them into about 24 muffins. Maybe some oats mixed in or a streusel topping would make this a 5.

Banana Crumb Muffins
I have the Allrecipes cookbook that this is in. The cookbook suggested adding chopped nuts and oats, so I added 2 T chopped pecans and 2 T scottish oats to the topping. I only used 1/4 cup brown sugar in the topping. I used light butter instead of regular, so I sprayed the papers to prevent sticking. These are really good, but the cinnamon in the topping does not fit with the muffin. Definitely a good topping for an apple muffin. Oh, and it made 12 good sized muffins.
