Debdoozie's Blue Ribbon Chili

Reviewed: Feb. 3, 2012
This is an excellent recipe. When I first saw the list of ingredients, I was skeptical. But the result was very good. As suggested, I used Pace picante sauce (medium heat). I think my regular chili recipe just found a competitor. Thanks, Deb!

Chicken Breasts in Caper Cream Sauce

Reviewed: Mar. 2, 2011
Too heavy with seasonings, resulting in a strong, salty taste. Perhaps halving the seasonings and doubling the cream would help.

Bow Ties with Sausage, Tomatoes and Cream

Reviewed: Feb. 2, 2011
This is a lovely dish. For full flavor, imported Italian plum tomatoes are a must (I used Cento brand). The consistency of this product contributes to a much richer and more intense flavor than domestic canned tomatoes provide. The extra cost is well worth it. The flavors are meant to be subtle, but for those who insist on cheese with Italian food, a side dish of Parmesan could be offered. An added bonus is that the dish goes together quickly. Thank you, Linda, for a great recipe!

Oven Pot Roast

Reviewed: Aug. 6, 2010
This is the BEST! My family loved the flavor of the gravy which thickened itself. I served it with garlic mashed potatoes and fresh carrots. I think the vermouth is an important ingredient. It worked well to toss the flour, pepper, and meat in a plastic bag for even coating. Comfort food at its best. Thank you, Becky, for a keeper recipe.

California Grilled Veggie Sandwich

Reviewed: Aug. 6, 2010
This is a great fresh-tasting sandwich. I've made the recipe twice, both times using ciabatta rather than facaccia. The second time I sprinkled the veggies very lightly with Italian seasoning. I found that it works well to pour the olive oil into a plastic bag and tumble the vegetables in it for even coating. Next time, I'll add portobello mushrooms also. Thanks, Heather, for a great sandwich recipe.

Lemon Mushroom Herb Chicken

Reviewed: Jul. 30, 2010
Delicious. I agree with other reviewers who suggest too much flour mixture and sauce for four breasts. The recipe is best for eight chicken breasts. It is problematic to cut the recipe in half for four breasts. Do not omit the fresh lemon juice, the lemon zest, and the capers. They make the dish. We really enjoyed it with brown basmati rice and fresh green beans. This dish is restaurant quality.

Broccoli and Tortellini Salad

Reviewed: Mar. 15, 2010
I followed another reviewer's suggestion and blanched the broccoli for 30 seconds and plunged in ice water--excellent suggestion. It resulted in a lovely green color and was easier to eat than raw. The salad generally was too sweet for us, even though I cut back on the sugar. I also used less onion since I made the salad the evening before and didn't want the onion to overwhelm the other flavors. I mixed in a portion of the dressing and refrigerated the salad overnight. Mixed in the remainder of the dressing just before serving. Texture was great, but sweetness seemed not compatible with the pasta.

Chicken Dijon

Solid family fare. Very tasty. I flattened the chicken breasts slightly since they seem to cook more evenly that way, and sprinkled them quite liberally with Lawry's Chicken Seasoning and Rub before browning. This recipe is a keeper.

Delicious Ham and Potato Soup

Reviewed: Nov. 29, 2009
My family enjoyed this soup immensely. It went together quickly with no fuss. Next time I will double so there is some left over. The recipe states that it serves eight, but that must be a cup serving. Thanks so much, Ellie!

I believe that it is only fair to make a recipe according to the original instructions and thereafter make changes according to personal preferences. Without major changes, I won't be making this again.

Awesome and Easy Creamy Corn Casserole

Reviewed: Nov. 21, 2009
This is a very tasty dish. I would prefer to serve it, however, at a buffet or potluck with several other dishes. I would not serve it as a stand-alone vegetable dish again because of the texture and sweetness of the cornbread mix (I used a Betty Crocker mix). I will make it again, but only when I know there are other vegetable dishes being served.

Darra's Famous Tuna Waldorf Salad Sandwich Filling

Reviewed: Nov. 15, 2009
We loved the great combination of flavors. Since the broiler was hot from the toasting, I chose to assemble the sandwich and melt the cheese a tad under the broiler before placing the other croissant half on top. I'm going to serve this as a luncheon sandwich for a ladies' bridge group. Thanks for a very nice recipe!

Heavenly Angel Food Cake

Reviewed: Oct. 5, 2008
This is a fabulous recipe! I have always been intimidated by angel food recipes. My son requested angel food for his birthday and since I always make birthday cakes from scratch, I tried this one. It couldn't have been easier and the flavor was superb! As one reviewer suggested, I placed the whites directly into the measuring cup until I had the right amount. It took fewer than twelve eggs. Can't wait to make this again!
