About this Cook
I'm a teacher in the small town I grew up in. I didn't really take an interest in cooking until I met my husband. That old saying that a way to a man's heart is through his stomach was really true in our case!
My favorite things to cook
I LOVE to bake! If I could just stay in the kitchen and make pies and cookies all day I'd be happy. Of course, then I have to find people to take the goods off my hands so my husband and I don't eat everything!
My favorite family cooking traditions
My family is from the south, as is my husband's. So all of the dishes that we truly love follow that tradition. I'm trying to branch out and learn some healthier variations, though, because you can't eat deep fried foods every day and not weigh 2,000 pounds.
My cooking triumphs
The first time I baked a pie was what really got me motivated to learn more about cooking. I did it totally on a whim, and when it turned out good, I wanted to learn more.
My cooking tragedies
When I was 17 I decided I was going to make my younger sister's birthday cake. It was horrible! I don't know what I did but it was crunchy and awful. And the sad part is that it was from a store bought mix!

Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough + Cupcake = The BEST Cupcake. Ever.
Oh. My. God... these have to be the best cupcakes ever invented. Honestly, I'm not big on cupcakes, but I was searching for something to serve at my sister's baby shower. I used store bought turtle flavored cookie dough and froze it over night in my deep freezer. I also used chocolate fudge cake mix and topped it with caramel icing. Simply sinful and worth all the calories!!! This is the only cupcake recipe I'll use from now on - I don't think I could handle the plain boring ones any more after having had these. The best part was watching my husband take his first bite, close his eyes, and say "Mmmmmmm, there's something yummy in the center"!!!

Outrageous Warm Chicken Nacho Dip
This is really good. The only things I did differently were to marinate the chicken in a chipotle lime marinade for a few hours, and I subbed refried beans for the black beans. I only did this because my husband doesn't care for black beans, and the only change I think it made was instead of whole beans in the dip I ended up with a creamier, thick concoction. I would definitely make this again; it's a good twist on the nachos I usually make.

Strawnana Bread
This was a nice, sweet bread with good flavor. It was also very easy to make.
