Beets in Orange Sauce

Reviewed: Nov. 24, 2008
My daughter is 13 months old and can't get enough of this. I'm not wild for beets so this was just okay for me. If you like beets try it, if not don't expect it to revolutionize beets for you.

Tuna Noodle Casserole III

Reviewed: Nov. 22, 2008
Not great. I don't know why it received 4.5 stars. Pretty plain- as simple as it sounds.

Sweet Potato Pie I

Reviewed: Nov. 18, 2008
Not going to miss my pumpkin pies this year. I did part white, part brown sugar and added 1/4 tsp of ginger. I made my sweet potatoes ahead of time and then chilled them in the fridge overnight and didn't have any texture issues. I'd do the same in the future.

Apple Cake V

Reviewed: Nov. 17, 2008
This cake is divine. Perhaps too sweet, but can you fault a dessert for that? Next time I will do everything the same except cut the glaze in half (at least).

Jenn's Out Of This World Spaghetti and Meatballs

Reviewed: Nov. 15, 2008
Not really "out of this world", I'd say. Meatballs weren't bad and were pretty tender, but the sauce was marginal. I'd use your own sauce if you insist on trying this recipe.

Creamy Lemon Chicken Soup

Reviewed: Nov. 14, 2008
Nothing fantastic. Nice warm, simple soup. Easy, but not amazing.

Addictive Sweet Potato Burritos

Reviewed: Nov. 11, 2008
Unbelievably good! After sauteing the onions and garlic I put them in the blender with the kidney beans and broth. I scaled the recipe back to 4 servings so I used one 14oz can of beans, a small onion and a big garlic clove. You can't have too much sweet potatoe with these. Next time I'd leave out the cayenne, but we didn't think it was overly spicy. Nice blend of spicy/sweet- my favorite combo of flavors.

Best Ever Banana Bread

Reviewed: Nov. 11, 2008
Splendid flavor and texture. I did add a tsp. of vanilla and 1/2 tsp of cinnamon. Per another reviewer's suggestion I put in 1/2 cup brown sugar and 1 cup white. I used two bananas. Took about 1 hr. 40 min. in the oven.

Russian Mushroom and Potato Soup

Reviewed: Nov. 11, 2008
Excellent and hearty soup. I only had 1/2 a cup of cream, but found it thick enough. Next time I will use a huge white onion as that adds a lot of flavor. My husband said more salt and dill.

Brenda's Apple and Pomegranate Crisp

Reviewed: Nov. 8, 2008
I don't know why anyone would complain about the pomegranate crunch except if they bought some bad pomegranate. I live in the Middle East and my recipe was fantastic. If anything I would double it for a 9x13 pan and cook a bit longer. Otherwise I'd say it only serves 5.

Broccoli Beef I

Reviewed: Nov. 8, 2008
I'm giving this recipe 5 stars so I remember it's a definite remake. As is, it's pretty bland, but when you triple the garlic and ginger and add a good deal of red pepper flakes- it's a smash. My guests practically tried to lick the serving dish. Don't cut back on the sugar at all. Go half white, half brown. I steamed the broccoli on the side and added two onions sliced. Splendid!

Pear Crumble

Not great. Wouldn't make this again. Not enough butter and just not enough taste.

Apple Cole Slaw

Reviewed: Nov. 7, 2008
Wow, I've never had a Cole Slaw this good. I followed the recipe exactly, except I was short two apples. Still fantastic. I will make this one often for picnics.

Brown Sugar Meatloaf

Reviewed: Nov. 6, 2008
With some minor adjustments this could be fabulous. It's a bit too sweet as is. Next time I will use even less than 1/3 cup brown sugar, and add more dry mustard and worshershire sauce. Didn't need whole 1.5 lb of meat. I cut back on the milk, added celery and bread crumbs. Next time I will place bread under my meatloaf to collect some of the grease.

Moroccan Lentil Soup

Reviewed: Nov. 5, 2008
I would give this 4.5 stars if possible. With a lot of additional spices added this made for a nice soup. I will make it again with double the spices- including salt and pepper. As others have suggested, I will also use chicken broth or bullion cube instead of water next time.

Hungarian Mushroom Soup

Reviewed: Nov. 3, 2008
Nice comfort food for winter! Very easy too. I used basil in lieu of parsley and some thick cream in place of the sour cream. Just enough for 2-3 hungry people. I would recommend this as a starter for a classy dinner party as well.

Sarah's Applesauce

Reviewed: Nov. 2, 2008
Very nice and simple too. I only wish I had a blender to throw it in at the end. I used my hand mixer, but it's still pretty chunky. Great for babies. Since it's still a bit chunky I mix it with my daughters plain oatmeal in the morning and it cools down right away. She loves it.

Korean BBQ Chicken Marinade

Reviewed: Nov. 2, 2008
Wow! This marinade is amazing! Half was enough for about a dozen whole wings, which I baked in the oven for an hour. I will use this time and time again! Did I say wow?

Not bad. Nice way to use Red Cabbage and it was simple and easy. Next time I think I will use more onion and more apple.
